RCA outputs on stock SE radio?

RCA outputs on stock SE radio? - 08/02/01 12:34 PM

Are there any RCA Output jacks on the stock radio on the SE? If so how many. Also, it says on www.nissandriven.com that there is 200 watts of power on the entire system, but does anyone know how many watts are on the radio alone? Wouldn't that be 50watts X 4?

RCA jacks - I don't believe so.

25W x 6 =

61/2" seperates in the front doors

6 x 9" in the cargo area

This topic has been discussed before, so please do a search before posting.

To answer you question, there are no preamp outputs (RCA outputs) on the stock head unit. Also, if Nissan lists the stock at 200 Watts (I thought it was 100?) then it really means 200W total. Divide it by 4 (the tweeter is connected off of the 6 3/4" front speakers). That gives you 50W max output per channel (25 if the total is 100W). The max is about twice the continuous output (RMS) supplied to each speaker. This means that each speaker is really getting about 25W (12.5W if 100W) of power since the RMS wattage is more meaningful than the max output wattage.

I've changed out my head unit with an aftermarket Pioneer, so before you ask, I thought the sound was inadequate.

If you want, You can go to the local Radio Shack and purchase a convertor that will add on 2 rca jacks.. Works fine on the stock deck, but.. I see it only as a temp fix untill ya get an after market deck..

Was the sound not loud enough, is that what you mean by inadequate? Or was it quality that bothered you?

Thanks for the power clarification. In 2000, the top of the line wattage was 100 in the SE (which was what I bought).

Even with "100 watts", I found that the sound was not only muffled (cheap speakers), but it was really hard to hear the stereo while driving on the highway. The combination of a cheap head unit and cheap speakers makes for a cheap sound. Most people have the idea that more power means better sound. While this is true to an extent, a big item that most overlook is the distortion ratio. Even if you pump out 50 watts of power to a speaker with a high distortion ratio, you will get a loud, muffled sound. Distortion ratio is the percent of useless noise that is generated by the head unit. A good head unit with a good built-in amp (or external amp) will have a much lower distortion ratio than the stock head unit.

Also, the paper speakers are much more efficient than the polypropylene or better woofers found in aftermarket speakers, but they cannot reproduce the same clarity and are much less rigid and durable. This means that they require less power to provide audible sound, but the sound they produce will not be comparible to the clear sound the nice speakers will generate with adequate power.
