Check into getting a portable DVD player first. They can be had for $225 on e-bay (brand new pioneer , I forgot the model) and get some 4" or 5" screens that can be found for $100 or less same in the same place.

Get a good laptop with a 15" screen! Only a couple hundred more dollars than a DVD player! Gonna sell my Gateway 9300 PIII 600 next week!

Make sure you mount the screen above the steering wheel so you viewing time won't be distracted by driving. :p

Why 2 screens? Who will be watching them? I have a TV/VCR combo in the back but so far I only use it to record the X-cam. I dont use it to watch TV but i can see it perfectly in the rearview mirror when i hit the dimmer switch.

Hey n2, is that a DVD/TV all in one, plus the separate CD player? Sweet setup, I'd like to know more.
Thanks.

Re: does any one have tv's in there x....... - 28/10/01 12:31 PM

How durable are those type of setups for hardcore 4 wheelin' abuse and washboard roads etc. I've always wanted to do a setup for my girls but am worried about dust / vibration damage to the components.

One of the AZXC members has converted a center console unit from the Quest minivan and installed it in his Xterra. The monitor / vcr combo is nice, but I don't like the way the armrest gets moved and basically is non-functional.

So if anyone can give me some feedback, I'd appreciate it. I really like beating on my truck on the weekends, but the kids would be more content watching a movie on the drives to and from.

Re: does any one have tv's in there x....... - 28/10/01 04:34 PM

Components are:
Pioneer AVX-P7000CD (Flip-out screen with single cd)
Pioneer AVM-P8000R brain (control unit with A/V inputs)
Pioneer CDX-P656 6disc changer
Pioneer AVIC-505 navigation system.
Pioneer KEH-P690 that is just used as a tape deck (for my books on tape for the drive to/from work).
The system is controlled by the 7000CD, this is the reason it is on the bottom. The 8000 has a video input and I can plug in my PDV LC-20 portable DVD player for movies.

In the next month the additions will be:
Crossfire P1c6 components
Crossfire BMFW12D 12" woofer
Crossfire VR705D, 5 channel amplifier
I plan to change the KEH-P690 to the KEH-P601 XM ready radio.

I can post some pics of how I did the radio Bezel if you guys want.

I did this weekend, but ten again, I was helping my friend move. Once we got to his new place, we took it out, hooked it up, watched some football, and drank some brews. So, I guess I DID have a TV in my X...at one time, for a short time. laugh

Re: does any one have tv's in there x....... - 29/10/01 01:42 PM

Do you guys think that if I do put a TV in the dash then went with a regular CD/Tape setup and then hooked up a PS2(to utilize the DVD feature as well), would that be a good setup? Or should I go with the regular TV/DVD/CD setups?

Thanks in advance for any input! cool

Are you looking for a permant setup or something you can put in the truck every now and then for road trips? Having a PS2 in the truck sounds like fun but I'm not sure how duragble the PS2 is when exposed to constant vibrations. You could end up prematurely wearing out your PS2. Personally, I would go for a setup similar to XXXTERRA and n2.

Re: does any one have tv's in there x....... - 29/10/01 07:45 PM

Smart thinking lil-pino. But if there is a way for the PS2 to be safe from vibrations then I wouldn't have to get a DVD or CD player since it will do both. But it would have to be close enough for me to reach to change the CD at a red light. It might be more trouble but it would be a 3 in 1 setup. This is definately gonna take some thought. I would for sure go with a double din setup because i don't like the look of leaving one empty.

Here's a picture of my friend's setup. He has the Alpine CVA-1005 and cd/dvd unit that you can barely see at the bottom of the picture. If I had the extra cash, that's the set up I would go with.

Re: does any one have tv's in there x....... - 30/10/01 12:07 AM

I don't know, a PS2 is going to be very difficult to install.. You can't park it under the seat, even if it fits(which I doubt), the fan would have a difficult time getting it cool enough. Mounting it on the passenger side of the main dash console is a thought, but it might be too big..

Might wanna look at something more compact..

Re: does any one have tv's in there x....... - 30/10/01 06:20 AM

you can install the ps2 vertically so it really isnt a space issue tatsuofag. my friend just got a ps2 installed in his mustang. he has the ps2 in the trunk, & the controller ports are in the center console along with a power switch. I'm sure u can find plenty of places to install the ps2 vertically.

That's true, I'm sure you can find plenty of places to mount the ps2 but in yxterra's case he would need the unit mounted up close so he could easily change discs. Having it mounted in the trunk wouldn't be of much help if he wanted to use it for its dvd playback and needed to change movies while driving. One place I can think of that you can mount the ps2 is in the glove compartment. At least the front passenger will be able to change discs.
Posted by: King Kobra

Re: does any one have tv's in there x....... - 30/10/01 11:53 AM

maybe u can take out the center console & get some kind of custom work done to fit the ps2 vertically inside possibly.
Posted by: yxterra

Re: does any one have tv's in there x....... - 30/10/01 03:25 PM

I was thinking about the glove box too. But I sort of think the space might not be enough. I think it might work better on the right side of the center console. The passenger would still have enough leg room and I would be able to reach it while driving. I don't guess I would have to use the PS2 for everything but it would be cheaper. If I put a TV in one din and a CD/Tape combo in the second din that way I wouldn't have to use the PS2 for CD's but if I was parked I could use it for DVD's and games.

I think building a new console would be too much work for me to do just to enjoy the TV. Although you are not the first person to mention that to me, it's still a possibility.

I know you can install it vertically, you fucking idiot. I never said it was impossible, I just said it was difficult.

As lil' pino was kind enough to mention to your illiterate ass, yxterra wanted something up close, and I said it would be difficult to mount up close where you can reach it from the driver's seat. Impossible? No. Difficult? Yes. Especially without spending a significant amount of dough, whether it's vertical, horizontal, diagonal, or up your ass.

Angel, you could put one in the dash and one on the ceiling. That would work if you don't have a sunroof in the way.

Don't worry about not having a sunroof, mine isn't that special. However, this gives you an advantage. You can place the second TV where ever you like on the roof now. All you would have to work around would be the overhead light and that's no problem. You could really make a sweet setup.
