High Lift mounting on Stock X

Has anyone mounted a high-lift jack on the roof or any other external mount point on a relatively stock vehicle (ie, stock rack, stock bumpers, etc). I like to keep mine with me but I hate leaving it in the back as it kills cargo room and mangles the carpet up. I don't want to get a loadwarrior yet (clearance issues) and have no plans to get a metal bumper on either end anytime soon.

Suggestions, pics?

I love this idea. I will use it. Are the black things under the highlift on top of the crossbars rubber spacers?

That's what I thought... the original post didn't quite make sense to me.

Paul Hartwig... No there not, just spray painted washers. the order i put every thing bottom to top is:

-Nut
-Washer
-Rack crossbar
-Washer
-Nut
-Washer/Rubber washer
-High Lift
-Metal Clamp(made from bent Aluminum)
-Wing nut

hi-lift handle hugger Acool little doo-dad to eliminate rattle and wear..

I also used large rubber grommets on attachment points from my roof rack to the jack as well, they help a lot.(cutting out vibration and noise)

Since I snowboard, and the wife skiis, I use the ski racks in the summer for my hi lift and shovel. I have used it for lumber as thick as 2" x 8"s too. It is lockable, very secure, and fast. It seemed logical to me, but I have never seen anyone do the same thing. Maybe I stumbled onto something?

Well, I have a rear bumper swing carrier now with my HiLift on the back, so that won't help with a stock rear bumper setup. BUT, here is a member from my club, Biohazard, who did the same.

TremorX, just talk to Travis, he has his on the roof rack with the mighty mounts. you can get them at almost any bike shop or REI.

I went through this description elsewhere in this forum, but I thought I'd place it here as well since it is more applicable here.

I used four mighty-mounts, two for each crossbar on the rack. The center bolt goes through the jack in the typical manner. I just wanted a little extra strength over the basic mighty-mount plan just in-case I got in an accident. I don't want to kill someone's kid with a flying jack. Hopefully I won't ever test it.

The picture is the view from the back. The metal plates go over and under the crossbar a little so that they might physically capture the jack if it started moving forward in a collision. Probably won't do much given the strength of the crossbars.
