Hi-Lift Jack

I had a hard time finding a Hi Lift jack around here. They didn't carry them at any of the auto stores that I checked out. However, the guy at O'Reilly told me Orscheln Farm and Home carries them. They have a 48" Hi-Lift deluxe for $53.99. It's more than what I've found on the internet, but less than the cost of a jack plus shipping. If you have an Orscheln's or a Tractor Supply Co., check in their "Farm" section (not "automotive").

Now I just have to replace the stock bumpers...

BTW, I am not getting any kind of benefit by plugging Orscheln's. That's the *other* side of the family.

I got my Hi-Lift at 4x4Connection (at the shop itself) and one nice thing is they sell the stronger all casting version for $51, as opposed to the cast/forged one. Might make it worth the shipping cost, I dunno...

it is stamped vs cast not cast vs. forged. if that were the case forged would be WAY stronger that the cast.

what i am interested to know is, if both are rated for the same weight and have the same specifications, what is the difference between having the stamped and having the cast?

I think Schlud's right, IIRC the weight limit of both is set by the pin in the mechanism that is supposed to break before you try and Hi-Lift a semi...(and it's the same pin in both jacks.)

then why are you saying that the cast is stronger than the other?

Because Hi-Lift intimates exactly that on their website, and furthemore the two jacks are sold side by side, for a $10 difference--I was trying to illustrate that 4x4Connections price is actually really good.

This is from the Hi-Lift website:
"Our Casting Jack is manufactured from high yield and tensile strength grades of ductile castings, the same durable metal that we have used for nearly 100 years. Specifications for the Casting and Steel Jack are exactly the same as the all Cast Jack. The difference between the two is that the Casting and Steel Jack contains some stamped high strength steel parts. We stamp and form the parts in-house; that allows us to offer the Jack at a lower price, yet still maintain the rigid quality standards that every Hi-Lift must meet."
