Where to mount a hi-lift jack?

Where to mount a hi-lift jack? - 25/06/01 08:24 PM

Ok guys I have a hi lift and have figured out a way to use it with my waag guards now I have a new dilema where to mount it. I tie it up inside when I go off roading but I would like a more permanent solution. Has anyone thought of using the off road mouting kit they use on jeeps and bolting it to the rear bumper. This would involve drilling 4 holes I suppose but would the bumper be able to hold it fine.

Do you realy think Waag will hold the the truck up in the air on hi-lift ?

you will do alot of damage eventualy, if you use it like that

I would suggest a set of Mighty Mounts attached to your roof rack as an alternative. It's an inexpensive mounting technique.

You already know my thought, but for the rest, this should work as a quick release option.. http://www.geocities.com/x_canuk/shovel.html

Ok let me repeat the waag does hold it with no problems with the attachment I manufactured I have rotated tires trimmed mud flaps etc. all lifting off the waags. The welds are good the tubing is strong and they are bolted to the frame I will post pics of my attachment soon so yall can rip me.

"More power to you my brother"
but seeing first hand how soft waag is i would stay clear of the truck while its up in the air, becourse it will be comming down very fast ;(

It is perfectly fine for tire changes but don't get me wrong I wouldn't work under the vehicle with any type of jack holding it. I have had a bottle jack give out on me and I don't trust life or limb to any jack that is what jack stands are for. Once I get the pics yall can critique it and tell me what you think.

I have mine mounted on top of the roof rack using two horizontal Mighty Mounts (28H, if I'm not mistaken) - the same method as shown on Ian's mods page over at http://www.xterrain.com . Mosi, over at PNWX, also has a nice setup which is inside the cargo area. You can check that out at http://www.pnwx.net/mods/highlift.htm - it makes use of the 2 rear-most cargo clips.

There are several great places to mount a hi-lift jack...

You can mount the hi-lift jack in the following locations:
1- Rear Bumper
2- Rear Cargo Area
3- Roofrack
4- Front of an ARB Front Bumper

Good Luck with whichever way you choose to mount it...

Here is my mounting idea - I used extra bolts and Yakima hardware to attach the shovel to the hi-lift. I used 4x mounts for the hi-lift and they are attached to the plastic jack holder thing.

That is Matt (XTERRA4EVER) from our club. I think he used garage door handles attached to the rear bumper or something. I'll info him of this thread, and he can give everyone a little more detail.

Yep, thats me. Save your $50 bucks or whatever for the HiLift mounts and get yourself two steel garage door handles. Mount it evenly and centered on the rear bumper while making sure your hatch will still open. Two bolts for each handle and I drilled a large hole in the center of the handle for a large bolt with a wing-nut.

I have a closer pic for more detail, but I its on regular film...so I need to scan it before I can post it.

Re: Where to mount a hi-lift jack? - 03/04/03 01:04 PM

I going to build my custom rear bumper, but while get the time to make the design and find the right welder, I also need a place for my Hi lift...

So I took my grainger manual, looking for a complex and fancy set up, when I saw a bolt with a nut: thatīs it !!

So I got this idea: make two holes in the rear stock bumper, place a bolt in each hole, the head inside the truck, and a nut at the external surface of the bumper to hold the bolt, then the hi lift and then another nut or wing-nut.

What do you think guys? Will the stock bumper hold the hi lift this way? a third bolt to distribute the weight of the hi lift?

I donīt care to drill the stock bumper, soon it will be trash !! laugh

take air...

wow talk about reviving an old thread. I still had my waag guard when this started. The idea of bolting it to your bumper will work the only concern will be damage to the hi-lift in the event of a collision.

Hi Lift Mounting, take one...

finally I did this:

Utilicé rondanas para el ajuste de la tuerca, ya que el tornillo no es todo rosca...

Ohhh....So, there's at least one person who mounted a hi-lift on the stock rear bumper. laugh

Do you mount the jack only when you go off-roading? Or, do you always keep it mounted? How's the bumper holding up?

Thanks. smile

I sure wouldn't want to hit a rock or anything with that mounted way out there.

Just put it inside.

Agree...you can lay it down and slide it between the rear seats. Bungi or ratchet strap the base between the floor tie-downs. Easy to get out and secured inside.
