Re: badlands during the week - 01/06/04 05:00 PM

I've been running the studio, Photographing weddings and I slipped down to Disney World for a week. So my plate has been pretty full, so to speak. As of now I won't have a weekend off until August 14th. After that September 11th so I was wondering if anyone wanted to go during the week. Earlier in the week would be better Monday,Tuesday. Which I know is hard for most normal people that work during the week but it's worth a shot. laugh

Why don't we plan a run for the weekend of August 14th? It's far enough away that people can get it off!

As for wheeling during the week, I work with my dad, so I can probably take a day off to go....

Re: badlands during the week - 02/06/04 01:24 PM

At this point I have August 14th off but I will more than likely book that date as well. I usually don't have a free weekend until after Hallowen. With it being only June I'm pretty sure I will book the 14th. That's why I was looking for a week day. I'll probably take the little guy down myself. It sure would be nice to have a couple trucks around just in case. I look at it this way;It won't be busy. laugh

Pinoy, I found the parks website and the park looks pretty tough. Would we have any one going that has a winch? This park is much closer to home for Hawk and myself. www.thecliffsinsaneterrain.com
I also found a jeep website that had a few pics looks pretty hairy when wet could be fun.

Re: badlands during the week - 03/06/04 07:05 PM

It looks like an ATV park....Not a truck park frown

Re: badlands during the week - 03/06/04 08:12 PM

They wheel trucks there also. The members of chicago4x4.net actually were involved in cutting the trails and since it's mainly a jeep owner board that's what the trails were focused on (short wheel base). If you got some time check out chicago4x4.net under "runs" forum for more info. That time we ran Lake Geneva they where actually cutting the trails then, the jeeps we ran with (firewalker) were talking about the place.

So Dave, I guess we try for a run down to attica. Haspins is kind of too far for a day run for us unless we camp (it's by IN/OH state boarder). I'd still really like to check it out sometme. www.haspinacres.com

Re: badlands during the week - 03/06/04 08:49 PM

I ran trails there last summer and took no damage other than a few scratches from overgrown brush. A stock Xterra can handle a good part of the park, but I'd recommend having one or two "recovery" vehicles along. Someone with a winch and mud tires that can pull you out if you get really stuck.

One of the hairiest/most fun trails I did was the Orange trail (I think) near the park entrance. Very tight and twisting, but I drove through it with no damage when it was really muddy.

Beware the tubes, only try the shallow side and check the depth before attempting. You could easily swamp a truck if the water is up. I dropped out and my sliders hung me up on the corrugated pipe. I had to get tugged out.

Well, I can make it. Let me know for sure if you want to do that date. We could meet at the Shell gas station on 394 and steager rd. and convoy out.

I don't know the area is this gas station in IL. or IN. I didn't see 394 on any maps. Am I missing something?

Re: badlands during the week - 10/06/04 07:39 AM

Broncox,
It's in IL, the town of Steger or Crete. You can take I-294 (south) this will merge and turn into I-80(east), once on I-80 you will pass over a big rock quarry, stay in the right lane at this point, the next exit will be I-394 (south) Danville exit. Merge onto I-394 (south) Danville exit and the Shell Station will be the forth exit off of I-394, you will pass Glenwood Dyer Rd, Lincoln Hwy, Sauk Trail, and the next exit will be Steger rd. . There is a stop light at this intersection Steger rd., the Shell Station will be on the right hand side of I-394. There is also a Harley Davidson Dealer and McDonalds at this intersection on the south/east corner.
Map quest isn't showing the address for the Shell Station, but the address for the McDonald (which is right next door) is 1350 East Steger Rd, Crete,IL. 60417. You can't miss it once on I-394.

Re: badlands during the week - 10/06/04 11:15 AM

Pinoy, I found the spot on the map. Looks like a good place to meet up. What time are you thinking? I know I'm going to run into alot of traffic coming down 294.

Re: badlands during the week - 16/06/04 08:59 PM

Glich in the Matirx? MXO forums isn't loading up for me so I'll post a reply here:
BroncoX, 7:30-8A.M. at the Shell Station sounds good. Hopefully Paul can get vacation time to meet us there.
For anybody else that wants to go they are more than welcome (the more the better). This run is for (Monday)June 21st. Dave and myself will be meeting at the Shell Station on 394 and Steger road to convoy out @ 7:30-8:A.M. and arrive at the Badlands at around 9:30-10:A.M.and maybe meet Paul there. If you never been there before I would suggest you remove your mudguards and steprails to prevent damage, the green trail (which is the easyest) will most likely claim them if left on.

Looks like modhost is having problems...bastards!

(6x.xxx.xx.xxx) file system check
The server is getting a manual fsck (filesystem check) done after the reboot. The time this will take is dependant on the amount of data but there's no way of avoiding it or speeding it up. Estimated time is *approx* 10-20 minutes.

Update: The server may need another 20-30 minutes as fsck is taking longer than expected. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

File system check is still going on on the server. An update will be posted once the server is back online

Re: badlands during the week - 17/06/04 06:05 PM

As I posted on the other board. I will be only avaliable by cell phone from this point forward. Please call my cell# 815-351-1519. If you need to reach me. If for some reason I am not at the station by 8:00am leave without me and I will meet you on the trail. I am assuming that we are packing lunch. Josh and myself will be going out for dinner afterwards. If any of you wish to join us that's great but Hooters is out. Josh is five. Chili's, Friday's or a local diner is great.
Best wishes and see ya soon
