Shooting Sunday 25th 10am Meet in Mesa - 21/09/05 01:04 PM

Plans are finalized. Thought I would start a new thread so you didn't have to plough through the other one.

Sunday morning - 10am. Meet at the gas station on McDowell / B-Line Hwy (Country Club) in North Mesa. For those of you out West. Take the 10 East to the 202 East to Country Club (B-Line Hwy 87) and head North, its on the Right side on the junction with McDowell.

Channel 14 FRS. My Cell Phone# is: 602-214-5403

We'll find somewhere out in the 4 peaks area to shoot for a couple of hours. My parents in law took me out there previously in 1999 when I came to visit, so I'll get the info from them on where we went that time.

What to bring. Your own targets, although I will probably have a few spare. A Cardboard Box or something to tape / pin them to. No Glass Bottles or anything that cannot be easily cleaned up. Something to snack upon / drink. Guns & Ammo, Hearing & Eye protection.

I'll be bringing about 2,000 rounds of .22 ammo. So if anyone has a .22 LR Rifle or Pistol they are more than welcome to share.

My Bro in law is tagging along with either his SKS or AK47 (Maybe both) and several hand guns. So there should be a good range of stuff to shoot with. I'll also be putting together some type of Target Stand and bringing 25 or so Police Style silloette targets.

You don't need to go near that far out to shoot. (Not that its a bad idea, just letting you know you don't have to smile

For a fun day, doing any of the runs out by Martinez etc and stopping for lunch, doing some shooting, and heading back isn't so bad smile

Have fun out there, I'm really bummed I can't go.

Yeaa, we didn't go that far I don't think. Maybe 10 or 15 miles outside of Mesa on Hwy 87. Not as far as 4 peaks.

Well if I wasnt heading up to Prescott for the weekend I would love to get out and blast some rounds off, I have about 500 @5.56 for the M-4 and I have been iching to shoot them and close to 400 rounds for my M1 Carbine not to mention all the 12GA shells i have, its a Blast to shoot that off in a riot semi auto manner ( shoots flames from the Barrel) and I like to rotate my Ammo stash. I have about 350 rounds of 9MM rounds for the Glock also, Keep posting up when your going out. Would love to get out again soon.

All I can say is: Ouch, my arm hurts. My bro in law came packing an old Russian rifle, a British Enfield rifle, his AK47, a .44 Mag revolver and a 9mm. So combined with my .22 we had a very fun time shooting varios weapons.

The Russian rifle took some serious large ammo, not sure of the size. It also packed a very nasty punch, I think I'm gonna be bruised tomorrow.

By far the most fun to shoot was the AK47. I must have fired 4 clips, 30 rounds each. Insanely accurate from at least 100ft away, we were picking off old trash coolant bottles on the hillside with ease. The .44 Mag looked alot scaryer than it was to actually shoot. We spend about 2½ hours total shooting and will deffinately be going again in a few weeks.

Andrew and his lovely lady showed up with his semi-auto pistol, unsure of brand / caliber. I had a go shooting with it and it was very easy to shoot and accurate. Thank you Andrew.

I shot about 60 rounds through my own .22 which felt almost like shooting a cap gun. Very inaccurate, but fun all the same.

Thats why there are the choice of terrorist organisations around the world.. and because there are cheap and very reliable!!!

The dodgey Russian rifle was a Mosin Nagant (762 X 54). They sell for about $70.00, very powerful, but knocks your damn arm off when you shoot the thing. Not fun, but funny to my bro in law watching it kick my ass! smile

I now want an AK-47, I can see why terrorists and 12 year old kids in Somalia use them, because quite literally anyone can shoot the thing accurately.

Sorry I missed it Roger, I was having the time of my life removing old flooring in preparation for the new Laminate.

I'm glad you had fun and if the Ammo is what I'm thinking it should be 7.62 X 39.

Very fun SKS and just as accurate or better than the AK47!

No worries, I have the same thing to do myself at my place in a week or 2, once we get the laminate. Carpet is coming up and Laminate is going down. I already have quite a bit of experience with that stuff from laying about 800sq/ft in almost every room of Lindsays grans house. A table saw is an absolute must, with a sharp new laminate / plywood blade. If you need a table saw, I have a small Ryobi one you can borrow that fits in the back of an X.

I'm thinking about buying a 9mm now and taking the concealed carry course at the local gun club. Not so I can carry, but to learn about the laws and learn to shoot properly, which they teach you on the course.

It is 7.62x54mm. This rifle has been in serive with the Russian Military for like 110 years or somethin. The one my bro in law has hales from 2nd World War surplus.

Thanks Rinky, but I have a Radial arm saw that I think will do the trick. I'll keep it in mind just in case.

Boy I bet that bad boy was cool to shoot, my SKS has 1952 stamped on it and I guess they don't get much better with newer models, except for all the additional bells and whistles...

Good luck on the CC course, you'll have to be a pretty good shot to pass, I hear.

Adam, Radial Arm saw will be good for cutting accross the width, the problem is yuo will also need to cut some of the boards along their length when you come to the end of the room. That isn't gonna work so well with a Radial Arm!

I'm thinking of getting a cheap Taurus 9mm ($350), which is basically a rebadged Baretta. That should hopefully get me through the CC class. Certainly not going to try it with my .22! lol.

And No - It wasn't cool to shoot. I have a bruise the size of a Softball on my shoulder today! smile That thing kicked like a mule.

Rinky mine is a H&K .40 USP full size

So is that bruise horseshoe shaped? [LOL]
You have to hold those things tight against you when you squeeze of the rounds or they will get you every time. Even after a hundred rounds or so with my SKS my shoulder will get bruised if not held properly.

I got to shoot my .45 this weekend. Unfortunately, it was late Saturday night and I had to put down my old tomcat so I could bury him frown

I've got a 7mm Ultra Mag that'll wear your shoulder down. Expensive ammo, but fun to shoot a few rounds through. Will reach out and touch at 500 yards if you have a steady enough rest though.

Hey Mike, how do you like the Glock? I've been thinking of picking up one, maybe a 10mm.

Re: Shooting Sunday 25th 10am Meet in Mesa - 26/09/05 06:20 PM

I was looking at a used Glock 18 9mm at a pawn shop. $250.00 and it looked in real good shape. I like the look and feel of the glock. Can't afford a new one tho.

Re: Shooting Sunday 25th 10am Meet in Mesa - 26/09/05 07:02 PM

Right now I'm at the Glock 20, but I may end up with a Glock 21 or 22. They are all pretty much the same gun with the exception of the Caliber.

The Glock 18 is a Law Enforcement/Military issue (I think the 21 and 23 are also used by some Law Enforcement Officers as well).

Re: Shooting Sunday 25th 10am Meet in Mesa - 26/09/05 07:33 PM

yeah, the 18 has a semi-auto single shot and a full auto selector as well, typically not available to civilians without a class 3 license, but one badass machine pistol

Re: Shooting Sunday 25th 10am Meet in Mesa - 26/09/05 08:45 PM

Weird! The Pawn shop dude must have been full of shit then. He told me it was a Glock 18. hmmmmm.

I just need something cheap and preferably 9mm as the Ammo is cheap. I want to learn to shoot with the thing so put alot of rounds through it. The Taurus 92 somethin & CZ 100 are also about within my budget for new guns at around the $350 mark. I've also seen a used Ruger or 2 around $300 which looked nice.

This is the Taurus PT92. They run around $350 brand new from the right place.

Glock 19

Glock 18 (notice the selector switch near the rear of the slide)

Glock 17.

All of these pistols are 9x19 (9mm Luger) and wonderful guns (I own the 19, and my buddy owns a 17), and relatively affordable.
However, I just purchased a Bersa (Beretta South America) Thunder .380 Auto (I know it's not 9mm, but with the right load it'll work just fine) for concealed carry.

$200 out the door @ Sportsman's Warehouse.

Re: Shooting Sunday 25th 10am Meet in Mesa - 27/09/05 08:28 AM

Looks nice. Just looked at ammo prices and .380 ACP ammo looks to be about the same price as 9mm. Plus Sportsmans Wearhouse just opened a store here in Mesa. Might go pay them a visit and check that one out.

You happy with the accuracy?

Re: Shooting Sunday 25th 10am Meet in Mesa - 27/09/05 09:11 AM

The accuracy is great. Here's a <<< review >>> that made the decision final for me (after going and playing with the gun @ Sportsman's and Gander Mountain a couple times.

Re: Shooting Sunday 25th 10am Meet in Mesa - 27/09/05 10:17 AM

Looks like it might suit my needs. Shame it's only a 7 round clip stock and the 10 round clip is like $50 tho. But I guess it is an ultra compact, rather than the larger 9mm's I was looking at. Looks like a sweet option for $200 tho.

On a side note. All this talk about buying an AK47 and a 9mm has swayed my wifes opinion on the 4x4! lol. In fact, last night she even went so far as saying I can have the Gun or the new X. So maybe I'll be driving the new X sooner than expected smile
