a little wheeling anyone? 12-30-2006 - 13/12/06 08:43 PM

Anyone want to do some wheeling? I was thinking about doind Crown King since I missed it or scouting out some good camping grounds out for a camping trip in march. I am up for ideas if anyone wants. Try out your new trail books and lets go for a drive!

Re: a little wheeling anyone? 12-30-2006 - 13/12/06 10:59 PM

Well, since you said "Scouting", I might be up for joining you if we're back from CA by then. [Laughing]

I'm doing a run with the Scout guys this Saturday (to Tip Top Mine)... Assuming my sh*tbox does okay, it's possible I could 'wheel twice in the same month. My clutch slave cylinder blew the other day but I fixed that tonight. I also finished my other front shock mount. I have shocks now - four of 'em! laugh

Yeah. Just let me know when, where and what time. You know I'll be there. CK would be cool again, or Edwards park trail if you wanna scout camping areas that is a good place.

I'll have to check my schedule at work, but if I'm off I'd love to hit CK. I'm sorry I missed the last run.

Re: a little wheeling anyone? 12-30-2006 - 16/12/06 08:16 AM

I'm in for the 30th. I will probably opt out if we're doing Crown King though, unless I have a chance to get my steering system in before then. My front end is very sketchy right now.

Adam, are you off work at all the 26th-29th? I could do it anytime in there if you're willing.

I meant install my steering system, not do crown king. I can go the 30th, i just don't want to do something as demanding as CK with my front end the way it is right now.

Mark, I do have the 29th off (Tentatively) if you want to start early Friday for the installation. If we bust it out, I think you'll be ready enough for CK and get an alignment afterwards. laugh

I'm having hub problems and I doubt I'll have time to fix 'em prior to this outing... [ThumbsDown] [Huh?]

I did finally take the turd offroad - went out Table Mesa to Tip Top Mine with the Binder Club. As to not clog this thread, I'll post the pic links to the "Scout thread"...

Interesting notion...that sounds good. Maybe Colorado, do they have any yet?

I would be up for a run to the snow.

CK is awesome, but I just did it and it is freakin LONG. I don't know if the missus is up for a 12 hour day again.

Re: a little wheeling anyone? 12-30-2006 - 22/12/06 09:37 AM

I've just done CK so many times that I like doing something different. Always so much traffic, quads, and dust on that trail.

Might go up on the rim tomorrow to see if any snow fell.

Snowed in Prescott today- not much stuck for long though.

I would imagine if you DID go up by Crown King there will be some white stuff on the ground.

Or Flag... Or Jerome?

Re: a little wheeling anyone? 12-30-2006 - 28/12/06 09:33 AM

Smiley Rock is an actual Rock (ergo the trail name) on the "Great Western Trail" over Mingus Mtn. (near Jerome). The drop in is beyond the Potato Patch campground near the top of the Mtn along 89A. It's a relatively tame shelf road in a heavily wooded canyon at maybe 5k' which drains into a canyon whose floor is a 1/2 mile of boulders to crawl. There's one particularily technical section which goes on for maybe 30 yards. Some of that may have changed since my last trip there though. The rains up north can work wonders on this trail, and others like it.. Search AZXC (or N4W) for "smiley rock". There should be plenty of pics.

Flawless Custom Fab. Robby took his measurements out at my house and cooked up some 3/16" sq tube (for the inners) and 3/16" rd tubes (outers), then capped off the ends with wicked diamond shape caps at his shop, very cool [ThumbsUp] . The legs'll be 2" sq, 1/4" wall to 1/4" plates with 1/4" gussets all around. They're exactly what I asked for.

OK sounds like everyone wants to go to Smiley Rock. Sounds great to me the only thing is that I have never gone so could one of you experienced lads take the lead on this one? Does anyone have any idea on how long the trail will take say from Carefree to Carefree? I'll keep my eyes on the post. Swanky, sound good to you?

Had a Sedona tour today and went through Jerome. It snowed the ENTIRE day- through Jerome (couple of inches) and then blinding flurries in Sedona. All the way back into Prescott nothing but white outs. What a fun way to make a living!

I'll post Broken Arrow with snow in a bit.

Yea- with the weather being as it is, I think that would be the most fun. make a snow day out of it and head to where the snow won't hinder the fun.

if there was that much snow on the ground when Marshall and Andy went, there's got to be enough now to make a decent snowman!

Alright, let's get to the McDonalds in Camp Verde at 8:30. We'll leave on 260 towards Strawberry at 9:00. Bring warm clothes and prepare to spend the day in the snow. We'll drive along FR300, head to the snow rec area (bring your sleds), and then enjoy lunch. It should be a great time, a nice way to end the year, wheeling with our friends. [ThumbsUp]

Oh and DBAX- I'm making a copy of a cd that I think only you have the possibility of liking.

I got it on a whim because it sounded interesting.

It's David Lee Roth singing old VH songs with bluegrass bands accompanying him.

Jamie's cryin'? Maybe it's because she can't stand the sound of a fiddle playin Eddie's solos?? laugh

It's actually a very interesting take on the old songs that I thought only you could appreciate.
Well, maybe Kaiser too

Back from Snow day, and it was great! Tons of freaking snow. We played in snow around pine, but I was very surprised to see FR 300 still open. We drove in about 1/2 a mile, and found a Jeep Liberty stuck, with his 4lo doing nothing for him...hehehehe......AZXC to the rescue! laugh
After pulling him to a point where he could get turned around, Bren and I headed back down the hill to home.
There was a play area right at the intersection of 87 & 260, with quite a few peeps. we did not go all the way up to Clints Well, but there is plenty of snow, and it is perfect for snowmen. [ThumbsUp]

We went about 5 miles along FR300. Up to some lake which was fenced off - Potatoe lake I think it was called. Little bit scary in placed, particularly on the way back when myself and Xrock both got stuck on an off camber section. Must admit if I didn't get stuck first with my rear end trying to go down the hill Xrock probably wouldn't have been off. Took us about 15 / 20 mins to get back on the road with the help of floor mats and some branches from a tree. Hope the rest of you guys didn't fall off in our tire tracks in the same section.

Thank you Xrock for the advice and the help, would have been lost without ya. Well maybe not lost, but somewhere at the bottom of that hill most likely! smile

We had a great time guys, spite the fact that I got really stuck on that ice. I just need one of you guys as a permanent hood ornament! It was nice to see you all again. laugh

Don't think that was the corner we had problems with, looks similar tho. Came around a corner then the road dropped off on the passenger side. My rear end slipped down and was difficult to get back on the trail.

After we left Potato Lake, the group turned out left onto 147, instead of right, which'dve led us back out onto 300. I was driving along for a ways when I realized, I could not, had not, seen the edge of the rim the whole while we were tooling along. shocked Soo we turned it all around and followed the trail to 300 and made our way out to the spot you see in the pics with the great views out onto the Verde Valley.

Thanks for the visual!! [Finger] I feel soooooo much better now. Didn't know I was on AZXC's notorious videos.

By the way, anyone seen 2 D-rings, didn't notice until I unloaded the truck.

Haha! Thought you'd like that.

Haven't seen the D-rings, when I disconnected the strap from you I reconnected it on the front bumper. That's the last I'd seen of it.

Thanks to all that showed up to make it such a great day. I think my favorite part was playing in the snow with the truck and getting people unstuck, which was all day. Thanks for the videos, they are great and some of those pictures are breath taking. I need more computers for all my screen saver pictures. They just don't do it justice to being there, so that is why we need to go back one of these days.
