Jeep roll 2.5x's - 19/03/02 08:54 PM

I filmed this at a Jeep Jamboree at the YO ranch in TX. This guy tried it right after my brother made it up. The driver was lucky and unhurt. The jeep was rolled back over, started up and driven back to camp. I found the guy and mailed him a copy of the tape. His mother was pretty shaken up about the whole thing. (1.4mb)

I feel sorry for the small tree/shrub he runs over just before he starts rolling. I hope you sent him a tread lightly pamphlet along with your tape. smile

That's a great example of someone freaking out and forgetting to take their foot off the throttle (he also kept turning left).

If you can't crawl up it, powering up it may not be a good idea.

Well at least he didn't stop himself by rolling into the bigger tree. wink [LOL]

Man I looked at it again and he snapped off the smaller section of the bigger tree(smaller of two trees growing besides each other.) [Huh?]

I'm with Ian on this one. Speed just puts you in situations that you might not be able to react properly in. I'm in the camp of if you can't make it with torque, then find another way to the top.

Ego often gets people into bad situations like the one in the video. To me, it's all about getting home safely. No hill is worth that.

Editted for content

isn't that almost the identical situation as you had, except you didn't do it off camber?

you couldn't get up a few different times so you gunned it, miscalculated, hit a tree (watch the video) and lifted that side of the truck. (you were smart and laid off the accelerator though)

Hey, it happens, big deal. Logan probably gets a bunch of sh!t for his little booboo too.

That guy in Washington who's X rolled, it was just parked at the time and slid off the trail.

Through the viewfinder as it was happening I couldn't tell if the driver had come out of the jeep or not. I didn't know what to expect when I ran up to it. He just tucked in like a turtle and rode it out.
The audio to it makes it even worse with the crunching fiberglass and stuff. This was my first vid.capture with my new toy, so I haven't done one with audio yet and I was trying to keep it small.
The jamboree people kinda got mad because it wasn't an "approved" trail. Some mavericks just started one-up-ing each other.

I don't think he one upped em, but he definitely up-down-up-down-uppped em.

And that's exactly how it starts, and how accidents happen.

Giving up and going home in one piece is nothing to be ashamed of.

Being extremely new to offroading, I have a question.

Where is it safe to stand and watch?

This would have been horrible had the Jeep hit a bystander.

It's best to watch from above if you can. If you cant, stay aways out of the fall line. I have had people pull right up behind/underneath you while you are trying to climb something, waiting for their turn. Sometimes I feel like common sense is the exception and not the rule when I'm out.

And if you can't watch from the top make sure you're twice as far away as you think is safe.

Watching that video I wouldn't have thought he would have fallen that far to the left,
I thought he was going to roll back into the tree.

If you are watching from the top make sure you're well out of the path the driver is comming up. Even if you think you're out of the way the driver might not.
There's nothing more annoying than having to change your line up an obstacle you're already unsure of becasue some moron wants to get a closer picture (the bad thing is that its usually a family member or friend that you have to tell to move the hell away).

What the hell? Why'd he go so far to the left and keep turning left? He should've taken a straight up line once he got near the top...

Talk about a spectacular crash, wow. Glad he was okay though, sheesh. eek
