I-4 in Florida does not cross state lines. Why is it an interstate highway?

I'll be at Ft. Irwin in June. Will get it there on a ship and then drive from LA.

Actually Hawaii doesn't have any "Interstate" Highways. The three large highways are named "H1" "H2" and "H3". I can't see any connection between the numbers and direction of travel like the mainland highways either. So to dispel the myth there is no "I" anything in Hawaii.

I-285 here in Atlanta just goes in a big circle.

Highway trivia:
N/S interstates are odd-numbered
E/W interstates are even-numbered
Spurs into and out of cities from interstates are odd-hundred (195, 395, etc)
Bypasses and beltways are even-hundred (495, 240, etc.)

The Interstate question came up when I was on my honeymoon in Hawaii. I was told that they must call it an Interstate to receive federal funding for repairs, maintenance... I guess this could also go for other states.
