45,000 mileage service - 28/05/03 05:32 PM

hey i was just wondering if i should be paying my dealership 278 dollars for the 45,000 mileage service. they said it takes all day, and will give me a rental car and wash my x (which is needed badly!).. but am i paying way too much?

thanks!

ccspelman,
According to the owner's manual for my 2001 XTerra, the severe service schedule at 45k calls for:
1.oil change
2.inspect brake lines, pads, shoes, rotors, drums
3.inspect ATF fluid or manual tranny oil
4.inspect LSD fluid (if so equipped)
5.inspect steering linkage,axle and suspension
6.inspect driveshaft boots
7.lubricate front prop shaft
8.inspect front wheel bearing grease and hub grease if so equipped
9.inspect exhaust system
Now, to me 278 dollars is a pantload of money to inspect this sort of stuff that, IMO, you should keep an eye on anyway. If they were going to change out the tranny and diff fluids for that price, I'd consider it...but since it's really just an inspection plus an oil change and front prop shaft lube (ha, if the stealership even does all of this stuff) I'd do it all myself and save the money.

alright, well i just called them and i guess since i live in el paso they do a bunch of extra things because of the dusty climate. he said something about changing the air filter and another filter, and then doing a bunch of stuff with the fuel injector. so i guess i'm stuck with the price! thanks again though.
