To buy hitch from Nissan or Somewhere else? - 19/04/01 08:18 AM

I want to get a hitch for my new truck. An advantages or disadvantages buying a hitch somewhere else? i see them on e-bay for like 69-89.00 bucks. What makes the factory ones better and worth paying $250+ ?

i remember someone saying they liked the hidden hitch. it looks similar to the nissan one, only less expensive.

i think the uhaul one has been talked about. sometimes they rattle against the tailpipe? or something...it depends on how they are installed i think.

I dont have one but I heard the Uhaul one is better than the factory one. I think the reason is because of the way Uhaul mounts it to your frame versus the way Nissan does. It supposedly better the way Uhaul sets it up.

Id research.

I just installed a hitch I purchased for $131.95 from 4Wheel Auto Parts. They have a website too.

Part #: DRA751017 Class 3 Nissan Xsterra Hitch

It was pretty easy to put on too. Just lower the tire and use a floor jack to hold it in place while you tighten down the nuts. It is kind of tricky to get it behind the tail pipe but other than that it's no big deal.

In case you are wondering it is tubular not square steel. Looks cool. I have yet to tow something but I am ready when the time comes!

even if your trailer hitch is rated 5000 lb, your frame is not rated that much with out stiffiners

That is a good price for the hitch. The ones I have priced were in the 200-300 dollar range. Can someone get me the address for them. XOC Rocks

thats NOT NISSAN hitch

that would be some other company making a hitch for nissan X

frame stifiners would not be included

and also with some hitches (Uhaul for exsample ) you cannot fit a tire that is biger then stock underneath your truck
with nissan one, you can feet 32 inch tire there

The dealer threw in my hitch in for free. My fiance was there and he did most of the talking and there weren't any with a hitch on the lot. We needed the hitch to pull our boat. He said if they thre one in we would take it. We also had already gotten almost 2,000 below the sticer price.

Does the Uhaul hitch have the cool rubber step like the Nissan hitch?

The U-Haul hitch does not have the rubber Step on it. The U-Haul hitch will cause a rattle with the tail pipe. My dealer Had the U-Haul hitch installed on my truck. To make a long story short, the salesman told me the SE would come with the hitch standard. When I got it home, there was no hitch. We called the dealer and told them no hitch, no deal. They put the U-Haul hitch on because it is cheaper. Tomorrow the dealer is replacing the U-Haul hitch with the Nissan hitch (at their cost) because of the annoying rattle it causes.

I got my Hidden Hitch from Bageco.com for about 115.00. I really like it.

I had it installed for another $40.

The Nissan one I think has longer frame stiffeners. so that's where SOME of the extra price goes.

The u-haul hitch is more prone to contact w/ the tailpipe than the nissan one, just look at the way the two were cut/designed and its a no brainer. To remedy the contact ensure that u-haul places a spacer on the tailpipe hanger.

I installed the Nissan hitch myself. It was pretty easy. Since I have a manual, I did pay to have the tow harness installed to save the time and aggrevation of pulling off interior panels, etc. The harness ended up being defective, so after a couple of trips back to try and get my rear lights to work correctly, they just offered to replace the harness. I'm glad I had them do it or I'd still be trying to track down the problem and get it fixed.
