NHL 2006-07 - 15/09/06 10:51 PM

So we don't have multiple hockey threads and since training camp just started....I figured I'd get the ball....puck rolling in one thread. I went to Bruins training camp, played street hockey with my son and the neighborhood kids and bought NHL 2007 for PS2 today so I've had a hockey hard on all day. Too much info? Sorry! Here are some pics from training camp-

Well Tomorrow is opening day for hockey!

Any early predictions?

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 03/10/06 07:16 AM

In the west I'd say Calgary and Anaheim, the East Nashville and NY Rangers. Anaheim vs Nashville for the Cup with the Preds winning in 6. Making it 3 years in a row that a southern US team wins the Cup. The South will rise again!!! :p

Was a good game. Fun to watch. Still it's game
one of 82. we'll see what there made of........

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 05/10/06 07:01 AM

Yeah Turco was Awesome, I wouldnt blame him too much for the 2 goals, Colorado had 38 shots. He deserved a good game after that 2nd period he had with all the Col Powerplays, and shut them down.

Was a pretty good night for opeing night, A shootout in one game, an overtime game-winner in one, and a penalty shot in the other game.

The Flyers are finally done with the Bobby Clarke era! Clarke resigned and Hitchcock got fired. Clarke made a some good draft picks, a few decent trades and free agent signings but he always seemed to forget that defense and goaltending win championships. Esche will be on waivers and Bryzgalov or Biron will be in Philly soon, just my .02.

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 28/12/06 06:54 AM

Their last two games have been pretty bad. They've been outscored 10-2 and gave up 6 goals in the first period against Buffalo on Tuesday. Ouch! Just wait though, they have a lot of young talent on that team.

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 04/01/07 01:39 PM

Went to the Canucks game last night, centre ice balcony for 30 buck canadian a piece, not bad for such an exciting game.

I know there are a lot of Canuck haters here but wow, did Luongo ever put on a show, and at the end when getting 1st star of the game he came out, pumped his fist in the air, and gave his stick away to a fan.

5 games in a row to take first in the goofiest division, im a happy camper.

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 04/01/07 01:43 PM

Oh yeah one more thing...does Jussi Jokinen do anything else but score goals in shoot out? wow is that guy ever useless in game time but a gem in the post overtime frenzy.

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 04/01/07 02:45 PM

Lucky to have been there. I have to say its one of the best losses I've seen Dallas lose. Luongo won that game last night and boy did he deserve the win.

Jussi has lacked lately as he's not the playmaker like Modano or Lindros so without some key passes that he normally plays with he has fallen as far as stats. He's put a few PPG's in lately but overall he's defense play is better that it has been. He's at a +4 right now for the season which isn't great but considering the best +/- we have on the team is a +10, I think he's doing alright but def needs to step it up as far as 5 on 5 play goes.

Maybe tonite Mick Magoo can give another game to Dallas. Anyone see that game? I'm a Stars fan but proudly admit the Oil got raped that night on that call.

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 19/01/07 01:27 PM

Penguins star Sidney Crosby models the new
"Rbk Edge" outfit which he and other players
will wear during the NHL All-Star Game on Jan. 24.

FROM USA TODAY
The NHL is launching its biggest uniform makeover in decades.

The league Monday will unveil sleeker, lighter, more durable hockey uniforms from Reebok that will enable players to skate faster with greater range of motion, while staying drier and cooler on the ice, says Brian Jennings, the NHL's executive vice president of consumer products marketing.

Hockey fans will get their first look at the new "Rbk Edge" uniforms from official outfitter Reebok during Versus' live coverage of the 2007 All-Star Game on Jan. 24. All 30 NHL teams switch to the new uniforms for the 2007-08 season.

The NHL and Reebok have been designing and testing the new uniforms for 30 months. That quiet period has spawned several myths, Jennings told USA TODAY. No, NHL players won't wear form-fitting garb like Olympic speedskaters. No, the new uniforms won't eliminate horizontal stripes, although some clubs will experiment with vertical striping next season.

The uniform shift is bound to spark controversy among players and hockey traditionalists. To stave off the kind of player revolt that derailed the NBA's composite ball from Spalding, the NHL and Reebok incorporated feedback from the NHL Players Association, general managers, retired stars and even draft picks. Nearly all 750 NHL players, from superstars to enforcers, have been personally fitted by Reebok, Jennings says. More than half the teams have practiced in the uniforms, O'Toole says.

Ahhhh, Saturday. Hockey Night in Canada....and Chelmsford, MA! :p Some great games tonight!
Rangers VS Caps-will Brashear get what he derserves for the cheap shot he gave a Rangers player after he fought Shanahan? Will the goal scoring machine, Colton Orr, go after Ovechkin?
Calgary VS Buffalo-Stanly Cup finals match up? Maybe.
Have you seen the new My NHL commercial? Pretty damn funny!

Why can't the Flames leave the Dome?? The best home record in the league and they manage 1 point on a three game road trip. WTF? Mind you it was against some stiff competitors, but still very HOT and COLD when it comes to home and away games.
Thank gawd they're home tonight! smile

That was a great 3rd period and OT win for the nucks. Sloppy puck handling on both sides i'll have to say though. It's always nice jumping up and down atop the division every few days.

They add some needed toughness! They both saw good ice time against the Thrashers and performed quite well. Stuart is a great replacement for Ferrence on D. I personally was alittle disappointed to see Chucky go, but holy crap what an all star defence we've got now! Looks like Sutty is serious about the cup!

Ya, you guys have a great Top 4 for D. What the hell happened against Colorado last night though?!? With the improvements the Flames have made and the Preds gettign Forsberg, the next 11 days should be interesting! I'm sure Sturm and Murray will be headed out West soon.

Sakic Scored goal #600 last night, that's what happened wink

That was an awesome game. 2-0 then 2-2 then 4-2 then 4-4 then 4-5 then 5-5 and two more to end it 7-5 with a hat trick by Hejduk and 2 goals and 3 assists by Sakic.

Its games like that one that make hockey so much fun laugh

...since when did Nashville become the new Detroit. Those guys are stacked!

Also, Jarko Ruutu scores two for the Pittsburgh win? Damn those pens have turned it up.

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 23/02/07 03:24 PM

So what do we all think about the Ottawa/Buffalo game? surprised no one brought that up yet, the highlights were crazy for that game.

I dont know about the hit that started it all, it was a bad hit but at the same time, Drury's head up was up and he was facing it so i dont know...maybe the elbow was a little high.

The ensuing faceoff though WAS in fact dirty, how ridiculous was that, getting all your players on the ice to go after non-fighters. I never liked Emery until seeing him in that game.

What do you guys think? anybody siding with Buffalo on this one?

PS. the canucks are on a rampage! 6 in a row...Calgary on the otherhand..why cant they win on the road??

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 25/02/07 09:45 PM

Neil can be a little prick especially with the stick but, looked like a clean hit to me. Emery, anyone who puts a criminal like Tyson on their mask is a dink in my book.

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 26/02/07 10:36 AM

old time hockey. i thought it was great. there will be the nay sayers crying that fighting should be taken out of the game, but what was the hottest ticket of the year? the next game in ottawa.

fighting is a part of the game. always has been and always will be. the people complaining that it has no place in hockey have never played, or never played at a competitive level. if they want to sell-out games, then the league shouldn't be so hard on the fighting aspect. like any other role on the team, it is a job. after a good fight they are usually patting each other on the back and going out for drinks after the game.

i loved the look on emry's face. like a kid in a candy shop. i didn't realize until my mom told me, but we played for the same junior b team in welland. cool

Oh wow, can't wait to see that criminal Bertuzzi in a Wings uniform. Should make the west pretty interesting if he can come back and play as well as he did pre-Moore incident. I wonder who they'll play him with because you can't break up the Holmstrom/Datsyuk/Zetterberg line.

So what else do you guys think, Thorton/Guerin/Cheechoo? Best line hockey?

Oh yeah and Im so glad Samson's back...I mean Sopel...the hair gets chicks...

Damn it, I heard there were 92 minutes in penalties in the Vancouver game tonight. I tuned in with 15 minutes left in the game..the Ducks are dominating! They should be fun to watch during the playoffs, people think of them as a young talented team with two of the best D-men in the league and a Giguere back to form but, they are a pretty tough team too. They lead the league in fighting penalties.

What do you think of your 'nucks? Since I'm not living on the left coast any more, I don't get to see their games at all. Do they have enough grit to make it a few rounds? I know Luongo has been impressive.

I used to think the Ducks were a lock to come out of the west, but I'm not so sure any more. I don't expect much from my Wings. I do think the Sharks could get far, if Nabby and Toskala continue their hot play.

I'm not so sure about the Sabres in the east too. Trading Biron might not have been the best idea. Miller just hasn't stood out this year to me. Too streaky.

My darkhorse is Atlanta. I guess a first place team can't be a darkhorse, but I think most hockey fans expect the Thrashers to bow out in the first round. Getting Tkachuk really helped them.

New Jersey is a team nobody wants to play in the post-season. All that experience, and Brodeur in net. I'm not a believe of the Pens. No defense, and streaky goaltending. They'll be playing golf after the first round.

Wow I just noticed you moved, could you not have picked a warmer place?.

Having not missed a single game all season i now have to say the Canucks has the biggest chance since the late 1980ties to makke it atleast to the final 4. Luongo is 5 games away from an NHL record for seasons wins. The changes as of late with the new coach as highlight has been the key to get it under way.

I look forward to a Wings canucks slugfest...Too bad you are not out here, just bled for the 4 first games of the play-off's.

Yeah, the move was a hard one to make. The wife and I miss Seattle like crazy.

You got playoff tix, eh? Niiice. You seem pretty confident in the 'Nucks. I dumped my Center Ice subscription, so I haven't seen any of their games. Getting Luongo was money. Just looking at the stats, it looks like they're playing good D.

I'm kind of regretting dumping my Center Ice subscription. This past Friday I fractured my right kneecap, and I'll be off my feet for 6-8 weeks. Just in time for playoff hockey. smile

no mention of the preds?

Canucks are solid, whether they win by a goal or 3 goals (who am i kidding, they never win by 3) they always seem to find a way to win. I have not been more confident in a Canucks team ever.

2-1 tonight, it was a little too close for such a poor calibre non-playoff team, but a win is a win. and wow did Bobby Lu ever play solid in net.

I've always been a big fan of Luongo and Daniel Sedin but I'm not convinced yet. They have a great top 4 D with Bieksa, Ohlund, Mitchell and Salo but up front besides the Sedins? They say D wins in the playoffs so you have that going for you but, you need to put the puck in the net too. Teams will try to shut down the Sedins and Pyatt, if they do?? I'm looking forward to seeing a tough team like Anaheim in the playoffs, the West is going to have soem great series this year. I can't wait, 3 more weeks!!!!!

Holy hell...is anybody watching the Rangers/Flyers game? Colton Orr of the Rangers just DEMOLISHED Todd Fedoruk of the Flyers with a wicked right hand. He was knocked out before he hit the ice. Had to take him out on a stretch...hopefully he's ok.

Fedoruk has plates in his face from a fight earlier on this season against Derek Boogard of the Wild. That punch might have ended his career. When it shows up on youtube, I'll post it here.

I'm uploading the fight on youtube...I'll post it here soon. I feel sorry for Fedoruk, the guy just doesn't quit. He's got like 5 different metal plates from fights in his face. I think he should have switched his style up a bit. Hopefully this latest injury doesn't force him to retire early.

I thought the one against Orr was a lot worse...he got knocked completely cold. Although you don't get a good look at Fedoruk's face after the Boogard fight.

Boogard is scary good. I still think Laraque is the best in the league.

Ryan Smith was the backbone of the team, the trade has devasted the morale and will of the team to play. they should never have done it. My bro in-law is one of the 36 investor/owners and they are asking some hard questions.

How aboot them Canucks, steam rolling the Predss last night, I was at the game, first period shots were 17-4 I am starting to believe that this will our year..the team is running on all 4 cylinders so much fun to watch.

Very true Claus, the nuckleheads are doing great and i am totally convinced this is their best chance. I think the city finally realizes the difference between decent goaltending and great goaltending.

After Kirk maclean we did not have decent goaltending until now.

Yeah Captain Kirk was great. Since him, Vancouver's been a graveyard for goalies...i bet people don't remember having Felix 'the Cat' Potvin...haha

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 23/03/07 07:05 AM

So who wins the Hart?

I'm not really a fan of Crosby, but the kid is a stud. He's got a nice group of guys around him though. I think he should be considered, but in my opinion....Luongo is the most deserving.

His numbers are absolutely sick.

43 wins
.922 save %
2.27 goals against avg
4 shutouts

Lecavalier, Broduer, and Thornton are others that deserve consideration, imo. But in the end, I'm sure it will come down to Crosby vs. Luongo.

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 23/03/07 07:49 AM

Luongo, he's carried the team. Pittsburgh was still winning when Crosy had a 10-15 game scoring drought. Let's see what Louie can do in the playoffs, it's kind of sad that one of the best goaltenders in the NHL hasn't played in a playoff game in his 7 year, 400+ games career.

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 23/03/07 08:03 AM

I bet your a BIG fan of Luongo, eh E? He's a fantasy hockey dream. smile

I worry that because Luongo plays on the west coast, and doesn't get the publicity that a guy like Crosby gets....that Luongo will get shorted in votes.

There is no doubt he will get shorted in the votes. He is at the moment 4 games away from breaking the record for most wins by an NHL goalie ever.

I would blame that on the Panthers and Mike Keenan's Reign o'Terror.

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 23/03/07 08:05 PM

What a great effing game tonight....Toronto at Buffalo. I haven't seen a more exciting hockey game in a long time.

Toronto comes out of the gate on fire...hitting everything that moved. Buffalo looked scared, and gave up 21 shots on goal in the first period alone. The Leafs carried a 2-1 lead into the third. 2 early goals in the third by the Leafs put the score at 4-1. The Sabres looked done.

Then the comeback. 4 straight Buffalo goals...the game winner on a sweet tip in shot by Drew Stafford on a sick pass by Vanek. Sabres get out shot 44-34, but win 5-4. Crazy game. Yet again, the Leafs choke on a fat dick.

My fantasy Sabre players did awesome. Miller with 40 saves, and the win. Vanek with 2 goals and 1 assist, and Jason Pominville with 1 goal and 2 assists.

However....I think the Sabres have a distinct disadvantage against very physical teams, imo. When the playoffs roll around, and they have to play an early 7 game series against a physical team, I think they could be in some trouble.

It's starting to feel like playoff hockey!

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 24/03/07 06:33 PM

Sharks lost a tough one tonight to Carolina, 6-4. The 'Canes were lucky to get the win. A couple of very lucky bounces in the first period ended up as goals.

How 'bout Joe Thornton though? He's playing out of his head lately. He's sneaking up on Sidney Crosby for point leader in the NHL.

Feb. 21:

Crosby had 95 points
Thornton had 75 points

Now:
Crosby has 108 points
Thornton has 104 points

6 games remaining for each player.

Re: NHL 2006-07 - 25/03/07 10:40 AM

This recent "Let's ban fighting from the NHL" campaign is a load of shit. The only time the media wants to center its attention on the NHL is when some idiot like Fedoruk gets hurt. They don't understand what would happen to the game if fighting was outlawed. They don't understand that without fighting, players would be free to use their sticks like samurai swords. Without that fear of retaliation from doing something stupid, players would be free to cheap shot like crazy.

Enforcers like Laraque and Boogaard are the NHL's policemen out on the ice. They keep the peace. Without them, the game would be MUCH more violent. Fuck the media, and fuck talking heads who know nothing of the game, but want to outlaw fighting.

Those damn canucks are good. I don't understand why they sat back after the first period. They could have dominated the Avs. Instead, they lost in OT in which the Avs trailed almost the entire game.

What's with Naslund? He is on one of my fantasy teams and has been a bum for the last month. [Too much XOC]

Super Joe has been hot lately, however, last week it was Paul Stastny and Hejduk. Not to mention, with the exception of last night, budaj has been standing on his head.

Yeah Naslund has been a bum lately, spending most of his time absent from the top two lines. He said it himself, that he hasn't been playing up to his potential and that it's a confidence issue...

all i have to say is he needs to find that damn confidence if he plans on helping the Canucks in the playoffs...or give the 'C' to Luongo

I heard San Jose and Boston had a deal worked out but San Jose didn't want to do it until the playoffs were over.
To San Jose-Murray, Thomas and _____(I forget the third player)
To Boston-Toskala, Bell

The Bruins definitely need a goalie, Toivonen is horrible and Thomas is inconsistent. We do have a great goalie prospect in Rask but he is quite a few years away from being a NHL starter.

Just a reminder, playoffs start a week wednesday.

What does this actually mean? Well if you live in Vancouver it means people decorating their cars like blithering idiots and those not brave enough to wave such colours, this means placing a small team flag from the window, and that means everybody!. If the goosebumps aren't starting, one earfull of that good ol' cbc hockey tune and your heart starts pounding...

Great effort by the Sharks tonight. Beating Anaheim and Calgary on back to back nights is huge going into the playoffs. Sharks at home against Vancouver on Saturday should be a good one. San Jose is playing great heading into the playoffs...they are 13-1-2 in their last 16 games.

What's up with the Canucks as of late? Where's the offense? Hejduk was a one man team tonight. That kid Stastny is a stud too.

Big game Saturday to determine who gets the last spot in the East. Montreal vs. Toronto. Go Habs. I guess the Islanders have a shot too.

haha totally know what you mean. What a great triple header yesterday. I was stuck working at the hospital all day. We ended up having the game on 4 different TV's in the intensive care unit. Thank god for flat screen lcd's and hockey loving patients.

Good luck to all the teams that made it.
They fucked up early on in the season by starting that turd, Theodore. That guy sucks hard. If they would have started with Budaj from the beginning, they'd be in the playoffs for sure.

Just like we were "handed" 96 points on the season. The Flames may not have ended the season on a high note, but they did what they had to stay ahead of the Avs. Winning 6 staight games late in March against teams like the wings, preds, nucks and wild. 4 games on the road and we all know how bad they suck on the road.
As they say, it's a whole a new season now, playoffs baby! [drink]

yup, that's absolutely correct. I swear that any time he started, the Avs needed at least 4 goals to win because he automatically gave up 3 a night. I remember talking to my dad in December saying that the Avs were no where near a cup contending team. They were at the end of the season. They went 10-0-2 in the last 12 road games. That's incredible. Their road record was almost identical to their home record, and that's where I think they lost it. [Freak]

Budaj is by no means flashy, but he has the basics down as good as anyone in the league, except for maybe Brodeur and Luongo.

Called it in October!! Just reading through this thread, I can't say too much though...I said nashville would win the East. Doh!! Why are they in the western conference?? [Freak]

hahah that's hilarious. Doesn't Eddy know hockey is nothing in Florida. He's not getting celebrity status in south beach. nobody even knew who Luongo was when he was out of uniform, let alone Mr Has been Belfour. Time to call it quits man.

In 3 years they'll do the same with Dipietro. I can see signing a player to a long term contract in baseball or basketball but contact sports like football or hockey? No way.

Yes!!! The Bruins fired Lewis!!!
-Keenan is the coach in Calagry, someone to crack the whip when they don't score some goals for Kipper.
-Samsonov went to Chicago.
I love trades and free agent signings!! laugh

Bigger yet... Flyers trade 1 of there 1st round(23) picks to the Predators for the rights to talk to free agents Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell before July 1st when free agents are aloud to sign/talk to other teams.
Then they signed both of them to 6 year deals. laugh
My Flyers are going to turn it around this year...I hope... cool

I think it is time to start a 07-08 thread. wink
