Calimini 05 5" lift - 04/12/05 04:19 PM

Ok, I am really curious. The website says " Call For Details". Who has checked into this. How many pennies will I need?

Last I heard was around $2,600. Not sure if that's accurate anymore or not.

I thought it was more like $3500. I know it is posted on here somewhere just too lazy to look.

Lloyd, just call 'em, and find out!! Calmini never makes parts, unless there's a strong showing of hands on who's gonna' buy them ahead of time. If more people don't start calling, and asking for it, it's going to delay the release!!!

Call 'em up. And don't post the info! Make everybody else call 'em up, too. That's the only way for Calmini to really be able to gauge the market demand.

Re: Calimini 05 5" lift - 04/12/05 05:02 PM

I remember it with no info available at all, just something saying it was coming. Sometime more recently it changed to the call for info format.
Lets face it, even at 2,600.00, which sounds about right for a premium IFS lift, sales will increase over the years. The first sales will be slow, as we are paying our loans, and armor comes first. My truck WILL get a Calmini 5" lift, thats not in question. Its my next hardcore trail rig, and I wont be doing SAS, so the big lift is a done deal. I am budgeting skids, bumpers and winch before Gone....Lift will be next, so how much to save for later in 06....Catch my drift...

Re: Calimini 05 5" lift - 04/12/05 06:45 PM

The basic SAS kit is about $1800..

then you add shocks and coils,
If you are going to drive it on the street, you add the steering/shaft, sway bar stuff....and a the new rear leaf kit and stuff to match the front height, etc...

So - around $4,300-4,500 to Calmini for that stuff.

Add to that, the D44 off the '80-85 waggy, and the new gears so you match the front, and I think about $5,000 dollars for the 5" lift is about right for budgetary purposes, as far as parts alone go.

If you have to pay for the labor/welding etc...YMMV.

laugh

So, for all intents and purposes, the Calmini 5" lift is about $5 Grand to do full boat....you can shave hundreds off by eliminating capabilities tied to the accessories, etc.

This results in ending up with what appears to be a killer live axle set-up and a 5" lift.

laugh

About a grand per inch.

Umm...TJ...I think they were referring to the 5" lift for the second gen Xterras...but maybe I missed the gist of your post [Huh?]

Re: Calimini 05 5" lift - 04/12/05 10:17 PM

If calmini is going to charge 2600 or even 3000, I hope thats the lift option with new coilover shocks and ucas. The lift they posted back in Feb. did not have these options, so you would be getting 5inches of lift, but no gain on wheel travel and flex in the front.

Chef - Hmmmm, seems I lumped the 5's in the subject line....

Holy crap... you guys are way off on this one.

If you had used the search tool.... j/k

I do remember a post I made that had a rough ball park for the 5" lift... somewhere in the $1500 - $1700 range. Now that is completely subject to their final decision but to say that it could be $2600 - $4000 is way off.

Re: Calimini 05 5" lift - 05/12/05 01:27 PM

The amount for the lift itself doesn't include what you need to complete the process, etc...just the parts that attach the donor axle...no suspension in back, or other items needed to actually raise the X 5" all around and make it road worthy, etc are included in the lower price.

Ok im lost, were we discussing the lift for the 2nd generation X or the SAS for first generation? [Freak]

Re: Calimini 05 5" lift - 05/12/05 03:07 PM

TJ, you are confused. there is a 5 inch lift coming out for the 2nd generation xterras that uses the IFS. there is no axle swap and all the suspension components are included. the only extra costa would be in installation and tires...and rims if you get them.

Not to be a joy killer here or anything...but after you put $10K in a rig that already costs $25K, arent you defeating the purpose of a "disposable" trail rig? You wont wheel it! I see it time and time again..... a $35K show truck taking the easy way. Id love to see one of these follow my $1500 Toyota. Now if you are talking a show truck, thats a different story. I like seeing these in the car shows.

Well, you can still have fun and not toally trash your truck. There is a difference between a $35000 truck that never leaves the street and a $35000 truck that gets muddy every couple weeks. My 05 (that I bought in July) has more sctatches in it than my 97 Dodge Intrepid that I drove for 8 years. Will I follow you in your $1500, maybe not, but I am not afraid to get it a little dirty.

Its more of a daily driver issue...build it to survive the weekends and get you to work on the weekdays....think tough and reliable rather than show.

laugh

If there's nothing left to break...and you can show up at work with the truck covered in mud/gouged by rocks and soaked in wolverine piss, etc...then the truck is doing its job.

I have more than $1,500 worth of armor on my truck if I count sliders, skid plates, bumpers, etc., and by the time I add the value of the steering upgrades, OBA, suspension upgrades, frame reinforcements, winch, etc...its another few grand...

...and thats so I CAN wheel it hard, and still get to work the next day.

Of course, as I also wheel at work, it sometimes means surviving work, so I can wheel it on the weekends too.

I disagree. How many of us back in '99 & '00 (and newer years for that matter) took ours offroad before the dealer plates even came off. Granted we didn't have $10k worth of goodies to buy yet - but maybe close (ARB bumpers, lockers, budget lifts, wheels/tires, armor, etc).

Yes, there's a difference between offroading and beating the sh*t out of your vehicle. You can do "hard" wheeling and still keep your rig in good shape.

Your $1500 Toyota probably smells funny. wink

I dont understand, how come 04 X's and back can't have 5 suspension lifts unless u SAS, and the 05's can? 3 in. is still sweet, But it would be sweet if they made a 5 in lift.

Re: Calimini 05 5" lift - 14/12/05 09:05 PM

Because the front end on the newer Xs are coil over and have a completely different set up, including steering!

The 1st Gen Xs have torsion bars... the set up is limited to 3"... however, on the brighter side, the 1st Gens actually get that 3" in extra flex... the 2nd Gens just get their whole guts moved down 5".

Poke around this site, lots of great info.

I just got off of the phone with Calmini and they said that they will not have the 5" SL out until some time after the new year. They haven't even finished the kit yet and have no idea on the price that it will cost either. They said to check the website after the first of the year and keep an eye out for the update in regards to what the kit will contain and the amount that it will cost.
