Snorkel - 06/11/06 06:50 PM

Anyone reccomend a certain snorel, or even know where I could get it hooked up and such, I'm going to be adding one to my 2000 xterra SE, and I'm curious as to where I could get the snorkel itself, as well as the work done to put it on. My girlfriend's neighaborhood gets a lot of flooding, and it'd be mighty awesome to be able to drive her out to her house even through 3-4 feet of water wink

First off, welcome! [Wave]

Second off, get used to using the search function, it'll help you out a ton on this site...and it'll keep the search vultures off your back laugh

Third, check out the Parts and Accessories section as this is for discussing specific products with the companies that manufacture them.

Check this one out.

Fourth, Should there be a warning about toasting the alternator?

Lol, I was looking at that site, but I wouldn't know where exactly to get the work done, I live in Williamsburg, in VA, and I'm totally baffeled as to where I could have it done, and what of the alternator getting toasted? I've never heard of that happeneing, but then again I'm not that avid of a 4x4 enthusist....I'm hoping to break into it big time though laugh And thank you for the welcome ^_^

Re: Snorkel - 06/11/06 08:37 PM

i dont know if this helps or not but there are a few stores in va that could help with the installation and might be able to tell you where to get the snork, they are independent 4x4 (ashland), Outlaw motor sports (culpepper), Iron pig off road (fredericksburg), and The 4x connection (winchester)

Re: Snorkel - 08/11/06 03:06 PM

Lol, Cut away ^_^U I'd be SO damn appriciate for the help, like, beyond knowlege. I just found this site the other day, I've had my xterra sice 2000, the month it came out, if I'm not mistaken, and since then it's been mom's car, and then I got my license and it fell into my hands, and now my parents are all about me loading it up with all sorts of insane 4x4 gear, they want to help. Anyway, as I was saying, I found this site the other night and I've been so damned excited, ask my ex, lol, it's all I talk about ^_^

don't forget about the safari snorkel. have one sitting in my garage right now but haven't had the opportunity to put it on. not a direct link to purchase, but here's safari's web site: http://www.safari4x4.com.au

Re: Snorkel - 09/11/06 09:36 PM

I prefer the safari because it follows the lines of the X better. IMO I ordered mine from 4wheel parts. Its the one for a Navara 3.2 L Diesel.

Man, I would totally love to have a snorkle but I just dont know If I have the stones to bore a giant hole in my perfectly good fender. Definitely takes commitment. [ThumbsUp]

Re: Snorkel - 10/11/06 02:14 PM

New fender's are cheap.

laugh

You can get a new fender, replace the original one, and make the hole in the replacement fender for the snorkle...and then, if you ever change your mind...you have the oem part ready to go back on, etc. (Or just keep the second one as the back up if you screw the hole up, etc...)

Re: Snorkel - 10/11/06 08:58 PM

wait, you can buy new fenders? where?

Re: Snorkel - 11/11/06 05:18 AM

Okay, I'm just curious, does anyone know how much it'll cost (roughly) to get my car jacked up about 5-6 inches.

Re: Snorkel - 11/11/06 11:33 PM

there are several ways

1. 3"suspension lift and 2" or 3"body lift = around $1500

2. sas = $5000 to $7000

3. park your xterra on cinder blocks. 4 blocks = $20

Re: Snorkel - 11/11/06 11:37 PM

:x lol, I like the cinder block idea ^_^U but that definately woln't get me far. I'll probably get suspension lifts, that doesn't sound like a bad idea. Oh, and BTW, Ninjas = awesome.

Re: Snorkel - 12/11/06 01:33 PM

Check out 4x4parts.com (AKA Automotive customizers), they have the TJM and ARB. I have the TJM and absolutely love it. Trick is you gotta seal it well and be creative when it comes to the airbox....drilling a hole in your fender is no big deal as they have a good template to go by.

Good Luck

Re: Snorkel - 12/11/06 01:50 PM

I thought they stopped selling the ARB snorkle due to fitment problems?

ARB was due to fix that though...did they ever get it straightened out?

Re: Snorkel - 12/11/06 04:31 PM

Ok I'm sold. So then I guess we just need to start a "get skaggs a snorkle fund" huh TJ? laugh

LOL.

I was hoping to see more money donated to the "Get TJ a Snorkle Fund" ...but that's been slow going.

I have been thinkin of snorkin' my ride but I was wondering what happens when your drivin in the rain??? doesnt the snork drink the water?? please explain? [drink]

Re: Snorkel - 12/11/06 07:44 PM

I was thinking the same thing about my ARB. But after driving in traffic and high speeds I got home and checked the filter and it was bone dry. There are little slits in the top that allow the water to drain when it is raining.

Re: Snorkel - 13/11/06 04:34 AM

How deep *roughly* can you take your car with a snorkel with it still able to function, excluding the fact that your truck *might* float, saying you have traction, how deep can you treck?

Re: Snorkel - 13/11/06 07:33 AM

this weekend I was up over my headlights for a very brief second. The thing with the snorkel is you still need to take into account your starter and more importantly your alternator. Those are not protected by the snorkel so if you do plan on doing deep water crossing it might be a good idea to carry a spare. There is also the ECU which is located under the center consule, if you stop and take on water your ECU is done for.

Re: Snorkel - 28/11/06 10:37 AM

Here is a question I have had about snorkels; how do they effect air flow? That is an aweful lot of plumbing for the air to make it through, does it rob any HP?
