J2Industries Dash Mounts - 17/02/07 09:52 PM

I had previously posted in the Stereo, Communications, and Electrical forum, but I think of the update this is the proper place to put this now. (Perhaps a mod can let me know if I am mistaken.)

My friend and I began designing an Ipod dock for my Xterra about 9 months ago, and finally arrived at a version of high enough quality to sell. You can see our old progress in this thread:
http://www.xterraownersclub.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=38;t=003326#000005

Now that we are finally offering these for sale, I made a website with more information.

It is www.j2industries.com and anyone who was interested in these before should check it out.

call me a n00b for asking this, but steroes arent my expertise. Can I get my ipod to play through my stock stereo. Or do i have to buy the ipod edition stereo too.

There wasn't an iPod/stock aux in stereo in '03...however if you go to the Stereo/Electronics forum and run a search on "aux in" you'll learn all you wanted to know (and a whole lot you didn't care about and don't understand) about whether or not you can mod your stereo to have an aux input (I can't remember off the top of my head and I am too tired/sick to search right now) [Wave]

You're not the only ones.

Ahhh, fond memories of trying to make my Aux in. I bought an '02 radio of ebay-broken. The second one I bought works great and I have it all wired in.

reddevil07, yep the earlier ones are definitely on the list. When we get a small break from making these I'll try to find someone in the Los Angeles area with one to help me fit it. Ill probably post on SCCX in a week or so about it.

Did you search for "03 aux in" in the stereo/communications forum?

Re: J2Industries Dash Mounts - 04/03/07 01:42 PM

You can't hook it up to your stock head unit. I bought a Pioneer deck and bought an auxilary input cable that comes out on the passenger side footwell. From there i just run an RCA-headphone cable and it works really well. That was about 3 years ago though and you can just buy head units that have proper ipod charger style plugs and you can navigate your tunes from there, i saw one the other day for about $120, plus your stereo will sound better

Got mine in the mail Friday, for the construction alone I'd pay $25, and I'd pay another $25 for it to be a perfect fit which it is, and there is the $50.

I've seen worse for uglier mounting docks. May seem a little pricey for a piece of plastic; however, keep in mind these guys are not a mass producing company like Belkin or Griffin. Also, this is a custom mount for your rig, so if i had a larger ipod i'd get one.

Looks great! any plans for a nano version? [ThumbsUp]

Re: J2Industries Dash Mounts - 06/03/07 07:05 AM

Any plans for one that fits the NANO?

Re: J2Industries Dash Mounts - 06/03/07 11:58 AM

The nano is difficult since the hole for the dock connector to go through is bigger than the nano is, so the nano would fall straight through. Ive had a few people asking about that now, so maybe we will look into it again and see if we can come up with a clever fix.

-another nice thing about being a small 2 man operation instead of a giant corporation is that you can request changes and new products smile

Will this mount work in a 2nd Generation Xterra? I have a 2005 and this is kinda like what I was looking for.

Re: J2Industries Dash Mounts - 15/03/07 11:41 PM

Unfortunately it wont fit. I think the key goes right in the spot where the dock would (if it were mounted the same as on the 02-04). Also, it would look kind of odd since it has angles and curves designed to fit in the 02-04 dash.

I am going on an xcursion with SCCX on the 24/25, so Im going to check out some gen 2s and see what we can do with them. I'll keep you posted.

Re: J2Industries Dash Mounts - 03/08/07 04:36 PM

FYI, We have gotten a lot better at making these now, and can make them significantly quicker. This means we can offer them a lot cheaper. We are now charging $30, shipped.

Yeah you can make it work. You have to get an AM/FM modulator. I have one from DLO (Digital Life Outfitters and it cost me $100. It is nice though and works very well.

You can get these at Best Buy or Circuit city or whatever. This is the model that I would recommend. I have an 80 gig ipod and it sits in there nicely. I think that you can go with a nano though. They make a few different versions.

I would give that a try bro!

Re: J2Industries Dash Mounts - 04/08/07 04:24 AM

Is it really a docking station or a holder? I can't tell from the pics...

Re: J2Industries Dash Mounts - 04/08/07 05:16 PM

It is the holder only. The electronic connection method is up to the user. We are addressing the problem of just leaving the ipod sitting in a cupholder or in the space under the radio by allowing it to be placed right in the drivers line of sight.
