Exhaust - 02/11/02 04:18 PM

Hello,
I just bought a new 2002 V6 SE Automatic (2WD). I am wondering how much performance gain there is from any of the exhausts that are available (Cal, Nissan, Gibson), with regards to HP, Torque, mileage, etc.

This topic has been thrown around quite a bit. Just do a search. I think you'll find more then enough info

Mileage will probobly stay about the same. You might gain about 5 HP, but it's kind of difficult to tell by the seat of your pants. If you combine it with the SLR intake or FIPK, you will see maybe 10 HP. Hope this helps,

unless im mistaken the nissan one should give you 10hp... if the rumors are infact true that the exhaust is what was changed on the 2003 models in order to give them the 10hp boost

The exhaust won't do much by itself. I think 5 HP and a couple lbs of torque is probably a good guess. The sound is nice though. smile

Thing really liven up when you add a good intake like the SLR or K&N AirCharger to the exhaust. Just based on my experience and that of others in PNWX I would say the following is true (these are guesses):

Gibson Exhaust alone = 5 HP
K&N AirCharger alone = 8-10 HP

K&N + Gibson = 20+ HP

Seriously; the difference was huge when I got both systems into play. Now for the cams, throttle body and some headers! laugh

I know people have said that is what gave the extra 10, but I asked one of the engineers directly responsible for it when we were in Smyrna and he said it was from some EGR and computer modifications. No mention of exhaust changes. I told him I was asking to see if it was backwards compatable and he said not with out some work, which would leave me to think it isn't just the exhaust. Or it could be they just got a peppy Xterra on the dyno to base their #'s on. WHo knows?? [Freak]

ok, i hadn't heard this.

anyways.... from what i've seen all exhausts should be about the same, unless you get a real custom job

Again, considering that V6 Xterras haven't had an EGR system since late '99, I don't know how changes to the non-existent EGR system could have increased the power wink

ok..well maybe he said ECM; it was some damn 3 letter something. People can be wrong; just pointing out he didn't mention exhaust. Who knows??
