Coil Over SAS and Coil Over Rear

Coil Over SAS and Coil Over Rear - 30/05/08 10:30 AM

Hello all, Is there any one out there who has done a 100% custom long arm coil-over SAS? and also Custom long arm Coil over Rear end on the first gen X? I have a 2000 and have looked at all the kits and customs on here and other X forums, and still think that the X can do better than the Calmini kit. I like the coil-over idea, and the long arm but the cost is very prohibitive when you have a limited budget. I am planning to do my whole suspension 100% from scratch and wondered if anyone out there has done this with coil-overs all the way around.

PS: Props to all you Leaf SAS guys and gals!

The tank is in the way for a 4 link... there has been some track bar/3 link setups folks have dreamed about. I think the best way would be to use a Pathy fuel tank under the back and double triangulate something nice. However there are many ways to hack a suspension under a rig.

I did a 4 link in the rear last year and moved the tank from where it was to sit like a jeep tank , partially tucked up in the cargo area. While it took a little space out of the rear, it's working great and the flex that I have is incredible.

I'm doing a 3 ling long-arm sas right now and there are some challenges as I want to have more up-travel than is currently the case, but the coil overs up front and moving the axle further forward should help to resolve that.

Oh.. and the four link in the rear is double triangulated and it rocks.. I literally hit an obstacle last year where I was at full extension in the rear and had full contact nonetheless.

I'm about 6-7 hours away from having my SAS fully complete with a 4 link rear and 3 link front. Based just upon what I've been able to see so far, I should have a setup that will allow me to do more than may of the modified rigs out there.

So, while it wasn't cheap, it is so totally worth it and I would highly recommend the person who did the work on my truck

I would love to see some close ups of what you did in the rear.

I'll see if I can find some from last year and post them up.

It's a Clayton long arm kit, double triangulated with TJ 5 1/2" lift springs. The tank was moved from stock location to the rear, which required a little cutting, but I only lost maybe 5 inches of height inside the cargo area and, if I felt like it (which, now that I think about it, I may do), I could reinstall my cargo area carpet, cover the whole thing and it'd only look like a hump in the middle rear portion of the space.

If you look at the ecxc videos from last year, there are a few of me running one of the trails and it's possible to see the flex that I have - which isn't too bad.

oh.. and as one of the members of my club posted up, I may have the only Xterra that doesn't have torsion bars and leaf springs.

Not too bad
