Newbie X-owner and loving it!! - 04/03/02 10:37 PM

Just wanted to post and introduce myself! Just got my 2002 SilverIce SE 4x2 two days ago after months of research. Love the way this thing handles! I had a RAM1500 before and had to get rid of it--->(Drips Oil, Drops Grease Everywhere!!) <---Repairs were too expensive! Have read many great things about the X and am looking fwd to much fun and adventure in it! smile

Let me be the first then to congratulate you on a very good purchase, as well as welcome you to the club..

Regardless of what you might see on here(the flaming, spell checking, whatnot), you can learn A LOT about your Xterra here.. Good Luck.. smile

I was wondering who would sorta "break the silence" in the 2wd section after the episodes of stuff that went on the last weeks.
But it's all good! laugh Welcome and enjoy!

Re: Newbie X-owner and loving it!! - 05/03/02 10:19 AM

Thanks for the warm welcome peeps. [Wave] I plan on doing a little "light" off-roading with my X, but nothing like some of the pics I have seen here! eek Some of you guys are just insane!! I have to use my X to go to work and travel in and can't risk the damage I have seen in some of the pics! I couldn't afford the repairs! I am in the Coast Guard and they don't pay us THAT well!! What really sucks is that I have to leave for a month and my wife is going to be driving my X all over the place and I won't even be able to see it!! frown Better get out the ol' cam-corder and take some pics of me driving around so I can watch and wish while I am away!

*Never* tell your wife you're going to miss your truck. Because all you are going to think about in that month is your wife, right?? smile

Welcome. I'm a new 4x2 owner as well. I will do some light trails with my hubby, but that's about it. We once owned a 4x4 Jeep Wrangler, and only went off roading in it twice. Two fun times, but not enough for me to justify the expense of the 4X4.

We are driving the X across country in August. It's going to be a great ride!

Hummm. Wow yet another 2wd in O.C. That's at least 4 including Strom , Jason and Me on XOC.

I'm starting to see a dangerous pattern here of people buying their X's based on their own personal needs. laugh

Based on your location, we could actually bump into each other.

I'm enjoying the site and meeting other X owners. It's been amusing and informative.

Re: Newbie X-owner and loving it!! - 06/03/02 01:22 PM

hey i guess... its just wierd.. costa mesa and hunting are like almost one and the same... most jobs i have had have been in CM, the coffe house i used to hang out at(the one that all the bands came out of) is in CM... Orange county is big, with a high poulation but Costa Mesa, Huntington, Newport, and fountain valley are kinda their own small little community within OC

Just wanted to add that I too have a 4x2 XTERRA, do not need a 4x4 and live in Warm and sunny Charleston..AFB to be precise....

On the 2wd vs 4wd issue I have had both...It was economics for me..chose 2wd no regrets smile

Re: Newbie X-owner and loving it!! - 06/03/02 08:26 PM

Hey fellow 4x2 wheelers,
I've been a lurker for about a month until about three weeks ago. Seeing as how so many people here are from sunny O.C. and other locales south of San Pedro, I figured the San Gabriel Valley could use some representation from a newbie 2wd owner. So anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. Got a 2002 Just Blue 4x2, and I am loving it! Got it on December 24th...no, it wasn't given to me (I wish!!). Let's just say I was in the Christmas Spirit...I give...and I Recieved. So anyway, just wanted to drop a line. Looks like a great group of people here; I've already gotten help with a few fixes. Glad to be one of the bunch.

Went to the dealer to price XTERRAs and walked out with a 2002 Just Blue XTERRA an hour later, Hall Nissan in Newport News, VA; they even stayed open late to rush the paperwork through and gave me a dealer tag so I could drive it this weekend pending getting the reg tags on Monday. 4x4 seemed a bit of overkill for my next duty post (GUAM) so I went with the 4x2, especially since I will be towing motorycles pretty much exclusively.

Thing is a blast to drive and I have already been out to the driveway twice just to look at it (in the dark even). Shades of when I brought home the CB1000 and spent all night in the garage with it.

Chris B...

Small world...something about great minds think alike

Yep still have the CB1000 (like you said way ahead of its time), 75000 miles and climbing, did 11,000 miles in September on the "Beast" 48 hours from Virginia Beach to San Diego to start then a couple of weeks to ride back. Fell in love with Utah on the trip so intend to live there when I retire, hence the Xterra as step one. Forsee another Xterra in the future when I finally retire (this one a 4x4).

ride safe

Bear,

Cool!! I plan on taking the X along with an XR650L out to Utah ASAP....I can't wait. In the meantime, Big Bend, Texas is planned for May and the Smyrna Nissan Factory tour is planned for June. Utah will have to be next year.

Anyway, have fun with your bike and your truck. laugh

My wife and I became the proud "parents" of an Alpine Green 2002 SE 4x2 in November and we love it. The 4x2 made the most sense for us based on our location (Kansas) and what we want to use it for - mostly hauling the bikes around and picking up stuff for working on the house and the lawn. We're planning on doing some camping out in it too.

Re: Newbie X-owner and loving it!! - 06/04/02 11:10 AM

I am also a new seXterra owner. Mine is a super Black V6 XE 4x2 Auto Util and Power Packages. Don't really go offroading too much so no need for a 4x4 ( and I really wouldn't want to dirty my baby like that). I got my wife to give me the go ahead when I almost cut off my thumb, cut thru the tendon and nerver and had to be surgically re-attached. Well my left hand and thumb was going to be in a cast for around 6 weeks so I told her that I don't know how I was going to be able to shift gears on my '91 Nissan hardbody, unless she wanted me to let go of the steering wheel to shift gears. 4 hours later I was home with my new 2002 sEXy lEXy seXterra (My wife gave her the seXterra nickname).
I get nothing but compliments and smiles with it. I look foward to many miles with her.

I am glad to be part of the XOC here in SoCal.

P.S. I'm going to Toys R Us to by me one of those RC Xterra's to join my four other 50+ MPH Nitro gulping RC Cars.

pop smurf,
That's some of the best reasoning I've heard so far of reasons to get an X and to convince your wife of it. Congrats on the new X!

Hey I am also a new X owner and am very happy with my purchase. Went to the dealer to help a friend in the purchase of her Altima and after 7 or 8 hurs I gave the salesperson the keys to my 2000 VW passat and traded it for the X. I just fell in love with the truck and besides that I got a super deal on the passat.

be safe.
