Dumb Question, I know BUT

Dumb Question, I know BUT - 03/01/03 05:17 PM

Since the Xterra has been in existence, has it ever come equipped with factory manual locking hubs for 4WD, or are they all automatic?

The reason I ask is, the local dealer is trying to void my warranty by saying the previous owner switched the original MANUAL locking hubs with some automatic ones. PLEASE HELP!

What year is your Xterra? I believe for 2002, they offered an "enthusiasts package" which included manual locking hubs.

If you have an enthusisasts package, there are other signs you can use as a check. Although right now, I cannot think of any. Try running a search for "enthusiast package" in the general forum.

Good luck. [Wave]

I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra. Were the enthusiast package or the manual hubs available then?

Nope, it wasn't until 2002 that it was offered, if I recall correctly.

So is it safe to say that the dealer is full of crap? Where can I verify?

In 2000 no Xterra was factory equipped with manual hubs. Your dealer is being an ass and I would go somewhere else. After complaining to Nissan corporate.

Ok, since his dealer is lying, what step should he take next? Contact regional manager? Or what?

How can you get the regional Nissan phone number (if there is such a thing)?

Good work!

Ruprick,
you said the dealer is trying to void your warranty because of the Manual Hubs? Is the dealer trying to void the warrenty completely, or are you having some sort of warranty work done to the X, or what is the situation? Before I can give out any advice, I need to know a bit more about the situation.

Seeing that a few people have posted that the dealer is lying. So far I haven't seen anything posted about what the dealer has said, besides the warrenty being voided because the previous owner replaced the Automatic hubs with Manual hubs. Ruprick asked if the he was being fed a bunch of crap because his 2000 X had Manual Hubs installed on it.

The answer is that (based on what Ruprick has posted)the dealer is right in this case , for a 2000 Xterra the previous owner had to switch the hubs from automatic to manual. Manual Hubs were never offered with a 2000 Xterra. The installation of the manual hubs would void the warrenty, but only warranty repairs that are directly related to the Manual hubs.

So the dealer can't refuse to fix the rear defroster under warrenty because of the manual hubs.

Sorry to burst your buble rock but re-read his post. He said the dealer is trying to void the warranty becuase the previous owner replaced the stock manual hubs with automatic not the other way around. In that case the dealer is lying.
