Finally took the X off road.

Finally took the X off road. - 06/07/07 08:10 AM

Spent the 4th at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky. I put 31" A/T tires on awhile back and removed the mudflaps. Everything else is stock on the truck. It has the LSD rear end. We went up to Stump Cave. I was with My Mom's husband and he was driving their Rubicon Jeep. It was pretty awesome. Here are some pics. I should have more later this weekend and maybe a couple of vids too.

I wish I was with you, but I could only be in spirit, as I've been working almost 8 days a week. The dirt I've seen lately is to turn around on the side of the pavement to go get something I forgot at home. Glad you got out to enjoy it. For the millions of miles of dirt roads in Nevada, you'd think I would be able to get some. smirk

Time is fun, when you're flying. smile

Don't forget to remove those step rails if the wheeling gets real hairy!

Probably won't remove the step rails. I don't feel like having to lift my five year old into the truck all the time. laugh

Usually when I off road I use the Baja.

I should have pics and video off my Mom's camera in a couple days. I will post them when I get them.

If you haven't bent them yet, then you probably don't need to replace them with rock sliders because you are not wheeling it that hard.

One of the main reasons you want to replace the Al steps with sliders, is that there's no where to jack up a stock X offroad without them.

To get a Hi-lift/farm jack to work with an X...as, offroad, there's no way the tiny sissor toy jack thing the factory supplies, is going to work when you need to raise the frame, etc.

Until you add sliders, you can simply get really stuck, plus, your pinch seams and rocker panels are very vulnerable.

Even mild wheeling, such as a rutted trail or sandy area, can bend a pinch seam or high center you..."Hard Core" is WAY beyond what sliders are for....sliders are for just GOING off road...

....hard core is where you can't even get through the terrain w/o lockers and armor, etc....and that armor includes sliders....but as merely one club in your bag.

Yeah. My X will never be "hard core". It's or daily driver. Although I must admit I had alot of fun. I just can't afford the slippery slope of upgrading the X.

This is my "hard core" off-roader. laugh

Thanks. It's really fun and cheap to upgrade and fix.

I should have the rest of the pics and a couple videos of the X at Stump Cave soon.

Re: Finally took the X off road. - 08/07/07 02:03 PM

It just has a 1600DP in it. It was raced in class 5/1600 which caps the engine capacity at 1600CC. But since i don't have to play by the rules since i don't race it I have "plans" in the works... laugh

Here are the videos. Nothing too spectacular. Actually watching them seems really lame compared to being there. wink

Hey, I thought they had a cable across the trail back to that cave?? I haven't been down there since last Fall, but the past couple times I've been there, the property owner had put a 1" steel cable across the trail to shut people out. I take it that's gone, now??

Re: Finally took the X off road. - 09/07/07 11:00 AM

I, too, hope that the cable is not there. Looks like a nice easy ride to do with the fam! I am new to Louisville and did a little research online about the place and found that it states that vehicles are no longer permitted off-road in that area? Did they open it back up?

BTW, nice pics! [ThumbsUp]

Re: Finally took the X off road. - 09/07/07 03:38 PM

There weren't any signs or cables up. I know they shut down a natural bridge to traffic close to that cave. If there are signs or cables I don't mess around. I leave.

I talked to some Jeepers and there are a ton of trails across the street from the lil abner hotel down by natural bridge. We didn't go over there though.

Yeah I am the same thrown_hammer from the Pelican forum. Killer Bees and Pirates to the max! laugh

Sweet! Can't wait to get over there. cool

Re: Finally took the X off road. - 09/07/07 06:18 PM

If anyone finds out it is shut down let me know. I don't want to trespass next time we are down that way.

Thanks.
