How do I drive on a slightly muddy slope with General Grabbers?

See the Story for details.

thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some words of advice.

I sold the grabbers to a soccer mom the same day I picked up the X. Seriously, if you use your X for work and you have to drive in that kind of slop, get a better set of tires. It beats "waiting till they wear out" to justify the purchase. What if you'd slid back into 101 and gotten creamed by oncoming traffic? Would that have justified new tires?

Good tires are absolutely the first mod you should make on any "specialty" vehicle whether its a sports car, a 4wd, or whatever. The only vehicle I ever bought new that had a righteous set of rubber on it was my Polaris ATV...

Is it a manual or auto?

One of the trick to hill climbing with a manual is picking the right gear. On hill climbs like that where you don't have much traction you need momentum and generally the highest gear you can possibly can be in and still spin the tires. Usually in 4 low, first is too low, 2nd is good for most and third is usually the highest you will want to go.

You don't want to give it too much throttle and be spinning. You want to give it as much throttle as possible without spinning or very little spinning. If it starts to spin let off slightly and ease it back on. You don't want to let off too much, just enough to just barely stop the spinning. On hillclimbs spinning just wastes the very little traction you have. There is a lot of trial and error though since every situation is different.
