Looking for sc info - 13/09/04 05:38 PM

Just bought an 02' X and the sc is not as inpressive as a thought it would be. What can i do to up the performance. I've heard i can change pullies, is this true and if so good idea or bad idea, and who makes it. Also looking for a performance chip. Any info would help.
Thanks, the newby [Wave]

Their site is currently down but Regan Performance and Pulley Boys make performance parts for the X as well.

BIGE515,
Thanks for the help. Which pully is this though. i read somewhere on this site that there was a 9 psi increase. This one says it's only three. I'm also wondering whether or not the 3.3 can handle the 9 psi increase. Is this the 2.5" pully??? confused

The stock pulley is 2.5". Some people have installed the smaller 2.3" pulley and had noticable improvements in boost but no way did they gain 9 psi of boost. I installed a boost gauge and stock, I get about 7 psi of boost. From what I've read I'll get another 3 psi of boost by adding the 2.3" pulley. As soon as I get rid of my "lag problem" I'm getting the pulley.

Again thanks for the help. Just looked at your X and your ex on Grovestreet.com. sweet rides. I've actually got a '94 yota in the garage too, but it's for sale. again thank you.

i'm no expert on tuning the SC'ed X, but in general putting on a high-flow intake and exhaust will yield good results with any forced induction system. combine those with a chip on an SC'ed engine and you can usually expect to get a minimum of 10% gain in HP, usually about 15%.

given my lack of experience with the X, i don't know whether you can expect similar results, but i think you could! smile

No problem, anytime.

I miss the Yota sometimes, or I should say I miss the pick-up bed.

2.3" Pulley + FIPK + Bypass mod = 12.5-13PSI at 5800 RPM/WOT.

As well, @ 3K RPM now it is 9PSI, was 5PSI stock.

Yes, it does increase the unimpressive stock power output...but it also will pre-ignite if you are not careful.

I put the pulley on at about 25K miles...now at 50K, no failures yet.

this is so frustrating, nothing seems to be able to work on the 2004 xterra. I looked at the pulley and it said 2000-2002, and even the jet chip stops at 2003. I hope my year isn't the freak year that sucks... Could somebody please tell me that it does work? I'm thinking that it does, but the companies haven't tried it on the 04's yet

The web pages were probably written before the 2004's came out.

There are no S/C or VCU changes as far as those two items (pulley and aftermarket VCU cals) for 2002-2004.

If you have time, search my posts for "Stillen sucks" - some information is in that thread about Jet's programming capabilities...an opinion FWIW
