K&N FIPK Kit

K&N FIPK Kit - 15/09/03 05:01 PM

I got a question for those with a K&N FIPK or Air Charger Kit. Is the air temp sensor that sits in the filter actually part of the filter or is it another piece in the kit? I am asking because my room mate has convinced me to fab my own intake and just buy the filter but, I am concerned about locating the air temp sensor.

Thanks,
Bryan

The sensor is actually mounted directly to the filter via a pre-drilled hole.

The sensor pops out easy, if you buy the FIPK it mounts into the heat shield. If you make you own intake you can put it whereever you want.

confused
The air sensor on mine goes in the back of the cone filter. I got the Aircharger before it became a FIPK but I don't think they changed it (and they shouldn't, the sensor should be in the path of incomming air).

That's right it goes into the rubbr housing where the filter attaches.

I got mine from Crutchfield for $229 incl shipping and it was here in 2 days. I like their return policy the most so I figured that if I didn't end up liking the piece, I could send it back for free...no loss.

Im sorry on non SCs the air temp sensor does go in the filter. On SCs it goes in the heat shield.

Talked to dealer mechanic about putting on K&N and suggested not to do it because the air sensor gets oil from the filter on it and it ruins the sensor and cost BUCKS to replace.

Is this a valid point? Are there ways to avoid this problem? I have a 02 S/C.

Just don't over-oil it, and make sure you let it dry correctly after cleaning.

The air temp sensor is really out of the way, it's the mass air sensor that can get damaged and is expensive.

Like XOC said, just make sure you clean and oil it correctly. I've been running my K&N AirCharger for about 40,000 miles and ran a K&N panel filter for 30,000 miles before that and my MAF still works. smile

I've been running mine for about 6000 miles and have not noticed any problems. It is a little louder then I thought it would be, but I can put up with it with the gain in power I feel.

I have been using my POP charger for about the past 10,000 miles and I did not reinstall the air temp sensor back.

I am not sure how this is affecting performance but I have not seen any drop.

you can get a MAF sensor adaptor from SLR www.2slr.com and then buy filter RX-4750 and then you have an intake for a little over a hundred bucks.

May be kind of a dumb question. I've been wanting to get one, but been a little concerned about getting mud and water on the filter. I went through some stuff today(not mudding, just muddy water) and looked under the hood and it was getting pretty dirty already. How much does it affect it? Will I just have to take it off and clean it pretty often?
