Suspension Lift Help..... - 09/03/02 03:23 PM

We just got done installing a suspension lift on RedX's truck and we're having a little problem getting the camber straight. It the 3" AC sus. lift. The tops of the front tires are noticeably sticking out. We've adjusted the camber bolts as much as possilbe and its better but still not close enough. The only other thing I can think of is that we are going to need a new camber bolt kit. Anybody have any ideas on this? Thanx.......

There isn't another camber bolt kit you can buy, you have to use what's there.

Make sure the front is high enough, if it's not, you'll never get it within spec. Between 0.75" and 1.0" between the bumpstop and arm.

Are you doing this yourself or having a dealer align it ? If you're doing it yourself, you'll never get it, since the upper arm controls 2 things, camber and caster depending on how you adjust the front and rear bolts.

This should help; on the driver side adjust the camber bolts so that the center mark points to about 1:00-2:30pm, on the passenger side they will be set to about 9:30-11pm then a 1/4 turn at a time adjust the tie rods...roll the truck back and forth a few feet and check everything again. This should get you close, if you have a problem e-mail Nissan Mike(4x4parts@shadow.net) or give him a call. Let us know how this works.

Just to clarify, that's viewing the front adjusting bolts from the front of the vehicle.
Reverse it for the back of the control arm.

Toe in and camber can be set somewhat by eyeballing it and measuring it, but caster (kingpin angle) requires an alignment bay.

Bad caster won't cause tire wear like bad camber and toe-in, but it will cause the Xterra to handle poorly.

We played with is some more and got it pretty close. Got the camber set to the max on both sides and it looks OK. It' will be enough to get him home. RedX lives about 2.5 hours from here and we didn't want him to drive that far with the tires like that. The T-bars are set just about right. He already has an appointment at a 4x4 shop to get it realigned on Tuesday so hopefully it will be good till then. Thanks for your reply's......
