Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X

Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 25/01/04 06:23 PM

Anyone with a standard size home garage and have an X that has a suspension lift, 31 inch tires and a Load Warrior rack...and is able to still park inside their garage???

Reason I ask is I plan on a 3 inch suspension lift and 31 inch tires, but was wondering if I will rip off my Load Warrior rack the first time I try and park inside my garage. My garage is important to me since where I live, there is no parking spaces, overnight parking in the streets and I don't want to give up my garage to some other tenant.

I have about 3-4 inches at an eye's view for clearance without the tire/suspension mod between my garage opening and the top of my cargo basket.

You must have a 7' high garage door. You'll definately be cutting it close, but it sounds like you'll just squeeze in as long as you don't crest a hill or have any type of bump as you approach the door. Don't forget to take stuff out of the rack before driving in though! eek

What I would do if I were you is set a 2x4 or such across the highest point on your roof and then measure from the ground to that. Then add 3 inches to that number and compare with the height of the door.

I'm glad I have an 8' door! smile

Man, that is a great question! I would probably think of it right before installing the lift, but not before buying it.

i have a lift and 32" tires, and i have about 2" from hitting my garage door when it's it the up position.
garages come in different heights, but my garage would DEFINETELY not be able to accomodate a Load Warrior with my other mods.

Re: Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 25/01/04 09:10 PM

So let's say that I can see atleast 4 inches that I may have left between the top of my cargo basket and my garage opening. If I add 3 inches of suspension and 31 inch tires, I am pretty much either scrapping the top of my basket to park my X in my garage or I am shit outta luck and just stick to new tires with no lift.

Has anyone ever done a before and after measurement to their X from stock to after they added a 3 inch lift and 31 inch tires??? How much difference was it Really afterwards, since 3 inches of lift and 31 inch tires vary from manufactures?

Everyone's truck is going to be a little different too. I will try and remember to measure mine tomorrow since it has the 31's on now, but I think it's about 6'5" or 6'6" to the highest point on the roofrack.

Perfect Setup

Re: Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 25/01/04 10:57 PM

i didn't measure my xterra after the new tires, but with the 3" lift i did get an actual 3" difference.
i guess that doesn't help much without the tire difference. and like someone said above, some xterras vary.

Re: Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 26/01/04 06:35 AM

When I had my tire on top, I was running around 7'1" with the lift and 33's. I would guess without the tire it would probably be 6'7" or so.

Re: Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 26/01/04 08:04 AM

I did some measuring today. My garage is 7 ft. tall but with a 1/2 inch lip on ground before entering in. I measured two different times. Before hitting the lip on ground and about half way park in the garage. Then I measured from the highest spot on top of my X which happened to be my roof lights to the top opening of the garage and I got 5 and 1/2 inches left for clearance. Do you guys think that after a mod of a 3 inch lift, stock 15 inch wheels with 31 inch tires will be less than my clearance measurement when done.
Does that make sense [Huh?]

Sounds like it will barely fit. Do you live where there is snow? I know it sounds weird but snow near the garage entrance can cause you to whack the top of yer truck.

Re: Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 26/01/04 04:22 PM

You should have about 1" to spare. I measured my truck today and it is 6' 5" at the tallest point on the factory roofrack with the 3" lift and 31's. I don't know how tall your load warrior is (6" or so above factory rack?), but add that height on and see what's left. Definately sounds like you'll make it, though it will be close!

Re: Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 26/01/04 05:24 PM

My garage entry is 83" top to deck.
My X currently sits at 79.5" at high point,(w/ 2" shackles on 265/75/16s).
I'm soon completing a whole 3" susp. lift, which in reality is really only another inch, right?I've got the shkls on now, and the aals will only add 1" in the rear if I'm not mistaken.
It'll be a squeaker in and out either way. Hopefully all the mud weighs the truck down

GO WITH 32" TIRES The 31's look ok but you will want the bigger wheels when you put the lift on. BELIEVE ME. Wish I would have waited till after my lift to get new tires but i thought 31's would be ok. Oh yeah I had no problem with clearence and my garage but had the stock rack. It was tight though. I think i have 79" of clearence. Only had a 2 or 3 inchs of room to wiggle but thats enough for me.

Re: Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 27/01/04 01:01 AM

personally i wish i had gone with 33" tires. with my lift and 32" i feel the tires could stand to be a little bigger. i've gone wheeling a lot with this setup and no rubbing so far. with 33" i figure i'll need to trim a bit, and i'm willing to do that.
so if you're willing to spend the extra $, get 33" tires w/ the lift.

I have a 2" body lift, 33's and a loadwarrior. My X has not seen the inside of a garage in over a year.

I've got the 3" suspension, 2" body, 33's, and lights on top and I still fit inside my garage, when it's clean.

I live in a house thats in a subdivision where all the houses are the same, "cookie cutter" houses. So I assume that my garage is standard. Yours must me taller then normal. Your lucky.

Re: Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 28/01/04 02:52 AM

Well here is what I plan to do in regards to my post.
I will just start off by adding a set of 31 inch tires and then measure whatever clearance I may have left to see if I can subtract 3 inches of the clearnce I would have left for a 3 inch lift.
Now for a question, is a 3 inch lift really 3 inches or is it more depending on manufacturer? Let's not mention after tweaking or mixing parts. More questionable towards a standard 3 inch suspenion kit.

Hi Fellow X-men,

I too am considering a lift for my X. It's all stock and what not. I want a 2 inch lift, but could be talked into a 3 inch lift. My question is, where can you go to get these things installed shocked ? I can't install it...no tools, no patience. Help???

You should have no problem wrangling up some help from the GDCXC members and providindg help. Check out their site and maybe do a little wheelin' to see what your lift/suspension needs really are. [Smoking]
And welcome aboard, have some fun in the X [Wave]

as for a 2" lift, you might as well go for 3" or 1.5". i hope you're not REALLY set on getting exactly 2" simply because 1.5 and 3 is really your only choice.

1.5" = torsion crank, leaf OR shackle

3" = new torsion, c. arms, leaf AND shackle

and to answer the question about the actual height gained from a lift, personally i did actually gain exactly 3" after my 3" lift.

Re: Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 08/02/04 07:51 AM

Didn’t someone post here about a year ago that they put a 3” lift on their X while it was in the garage. Then after they were done realized it was too big to fit out of the door…

Who was that? I think they said they got it out by letting most of the air out of the tires.

Rancho recently started to offer a 2 inch lift for the Xterra. I am just quite sure of their quality made for the X compared to those on the market for the past couple of years.

hmm. why go 2" when you can go 3". and it'll most likely be more expensive than calmini's.

Re: Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 16/02/04 06:20 PM

I got my new 31 inch tires and did another measurement for my garage clearnce. I have 5.5 inches left for my X to be able to drive into my garage. Do you think that a full 3 inch kit such as Calmini or other make will be within the 5.5 inches I have left?

if you're trying to ask if a 3" lift will in reality come out being OVER 5.5", then don't worry. occasionally with jeep lifts they come out 1 or 1.5 inch higher, but not a whole 2.5 inches. get the lift. you'll be fine.

Thanks Clapto for the reply. I will now definitely go order me a 3 inch suspension lift....when I gather some cash.

Re: Garage Clearance vs. Lifted X - 01/03/04 05:52 PM

Quick update on the height after CALMINI suspension lift. The highest point on DBAX is now 82.25", from 79.5" with just shackles and T-bar twist. That leaves me .75" to get in and out. I'm not sure if thats good as I was told the Firestone Destination MTs (what I run now) are availaable now in a 33 for my new wheels which should be here the 4th laugh
