RSX Shocks

I am thinking of installing the RSX Self Adjusting shocks on my Xterra. Has anyone used them and are they worth it. Or would you have a strong preference for another type/brand?

I had them and didn't care for them. The ride was jiggly on small bumps and very bouncy (out of control type bouncy) on large bumps and freeway dips. You'd be better off spending a few extra bucks for the Bilstiens as they are far superior.

I've got 'em and I think they're great. I have only the OE shocks to compare them to though. They've completely altered the ride too. On 3, they ride like a Cadillac over city streets and highways. On 9, they soak up ruts, washes, and whatever they do crawling on big rocks seems to work just great also. Everyone goes on about the Bilsteins, I just didn't want to be everyone else. 4whl parts has a buy 3 get one free right now too, $250 and change

DBAX, you don't have the RSX if you have settings for the ride. The RSX is what Rancho calls "self adjusting" because it's supposed to respond automatically to different conditions, but I didn't find that to be the case at all. You must have the 9000's.

Chucks right. These are the RS9000's. Different from the RSX17000's. I have never used Rancho, but they are supposed to be good. Personally I have Fabtech Shocks, so I cant say much more. For a Gas Charged Shock you would probably be better off using the Bilstien's(Did I spell that right) 5100's or even the 7100's for off roading.

I have had RSX shocks on my X for about 12,000 miles. Offroad ride is superior to factory shocks. Onroad ride is stiffer than stock, but 95% of body roll had been eliminated in turns.

on a stock truck yes, very good improvement over stock. on a the front of a truck with an ARB and a winch , I need to get my rsx's off the front of my X asap cause they are spent and I have new tires I dont want to trash with cupping

Ranchos do not last. I've gone through multiple sets in the 18 months I've had them...

I've had RS9000's for many hard miles. Love em! The ones for the Xterra are a tad short on downtravel with a lift though. I corrected this problem with a spacer that adds about .75 in to the travel.

Funny y'all are mentioning this...

I called to purchase a set of these shocks and they said I couldn't use the 9-way adjustable's unless I had a minumum of a 3 in lift.

Has anyone run into this?

aha. search engine strikes again.

same here. looks like rancho is doing a buy 3 get 1 free deal (at least at sams offroad http://www.samsoffroad.com/ranchopromo.htm ). looks like us unlifted xterras are 'stuck' with either bilsteins or rsx/5000s. or tokico or whatever else of course. i was kinda interested in the 9000....but they don't seem to make one for us shorties.
