shock recomendations - 04/10/06 09:38 AM

Ready to replace my weak OEM shocks to stop the up and down motion everytime I shift gears.
What is the common aftermarket shock everyone is using.

Well, as you have a 2nd gen X it may be a little different to change out shocks that it is for those of us with the first gens. I really couldn't tell you how many options there are for shock replacement up front. In the rear, however go Bilstein all the way.

At present for the front end the only choices are the bilsteins that come on the Offroad models or Rancho makes a 9000 shock for the front end.

To be more specific, we'd need to iknow what your driving consisted of, like off roading or want to try it out for example?

Can anybody post a Website for the Bilstein Shocks (where everybody's getting them)...thinking about getting some in the near future...

I got mine at SLR, the 5100's, and the 7100's.

eshocks.com has been popular too, the price is similar though, and I find SLR's site easier to use.

When I got my Bils I called E-shocks 800 line. Told them the part numbers and BAM, done. Super easy and had them in my hands in a week. Not bad considering they went from Michigan to Arizona.

While the topic is going, how about the shocks from the Calmini web site? I was looking at them as a cheaper alternative for replacing shocks with a PML being they are for the Calmini lift kit and are only 29 bucks. Are they any good or just a crap shock coated in Calmini colors?

Let's see...Calmini shocks, not worth the headache from what I've seen (never used 'em just seen 'em snap).

I don't actually know anyone who got the Calmini shocks and was pleased. They may be out there somewhere, but I've never met one.

I DO know people who bought the Calmini lift kits, and then, after a while, swapped in Bilsteins or Rancho shocks instead, and then were quite pleased.

On the '06 bilstein's will be the best bet on the back, however, Rancho also makes a stock replacement in the 9000 series which is good. There are a lot of options out there for the rear, you just have to find something the right length and then hope they're valved right for the X's weight.
Front shocks... not many options. You could go with the stock bilstein from the OR package or Rancho now has the RS9000 adj. available as well. The other option is the Radflo height adjustable coilover which will run you about $900 a pair but are the best things out there, hands down.
Someone mentioned having a Bilstein coilover for the front but until we see pictures I'm calling BS!

I know a guy selling brand new never used Rancho 9000's for a 3" lift he never installed, as he totaled the X it was for...

He really want to sell them.

laugh

One of the reasons I found the SLR site easier was they list the stiffness relative to stock, and if its for a lift or not...and you just pick the combo you want.

If you go to E Shocks...you HAVE TO KNOW THE PART # you want.

If you DO know it, its a brreeze, if you don't...you are dog meat.

laugh

Anyway - if any one wants the New Rancho's, let me know.

What are the part #'s for the Front and Rear Bilstiens....

For 5100's?

OEM stiffness, 10% stiffer or 20% stiffer, - but for altered suspension I assume, as the altered suspension shocks fits the non-altered trucks, and avoids the need to upgrade, again, later.
