Idling problem - 17/08/12 11:36 PM

Ok I just recentley did a timing belt chan ge on my 2000 3.3L V6 Xterra. I wnet to start it back up and there were sparks shooting up from the idler pulley for the second drive belt (the one that runs the water pump and power steering). I attempted to readjust it but cant seem to get it to stop scraping against the bracket or the belt coming off, plus it gets so hot that it smells like burning rubber and white smoke appears when the engine shuts off right at the idler. I also have to have water on stand by in order not to burn my hands trying to fix this....Does anyone have any helpful tips for this?

Maybe pictures would help - sounds like you got some timing cover bolts put back in the wrong holes (i.e. wrong length bolt in a hole) or maybe you messed up putting the pulley brackets back on.

Problem solved.....My radiator wasn't in right, and all the pulleys were to tight. Lossened up the nuts on the pulleys and the noise and smoke went away. Thanks though Kaiser
