Repairing a disk for PS2

Repairing a disk for PS2 - 19/11/05 06:13 AM

I am having difficulties playing one specific disk. The PS2 tries to read it and then the message, 'the disk could not be read', shows up. The PS2 is near new and has had no diff. reading any other disk. Also, the same disk in question has not played on someone else's PS2. Any suggestions?

I have used the search feature here and have checked out google and yahoo but all the responses are with regards to repairing the PS2 itself.

How fucked up is the disc itself? Is it heavily scratched? Gouged?

If it's a new one return it. If it's old, then you might just have to get a new one. Those "Disc Fixers" that you see for $10 or whatever are usually a piece of shit that do nothing more than ruin the disc even more.

ive had really good luck with those, but mine was $35, and i have used it way more than enough to cover the cost.

try a cd doctor resurfacing kit. i dont think that they are $35 any more.

If it's just really scratched up: Believe it or not, try just using furniture polish on the disk (like pledge). Shoot it, and then wipe it off. Stick the disk in and see if you can read it...

It's an older disk age-wise, but condition-wise it's in awesome shape. No scratches to speak of at all. That why it's so frustrating.

Thanks for the responses.

Okay, we had this problem ourself with a certain game once. The fix was simple.

Get 2 pieces of regular stick tape and tape them next to the hole in the center of the disk, on the label side. Per the poorly drawn diagram below.

The PS2 can then grip the disk better and re-read any specific data it needs to read easier. It sounds stupid but it worked with 2 of our disks on our PS2.
