Want to get an oil change on my 05'. Or, should I just take it to the dealer?

You really should at least consider doing it yourself.

If its new, the dealer may do free changes for a while though.

Do not go to a Jiffy Rube type place...very dangerous precedents have been established with that route.

It pretty easy to do, and saves you money, and frankly, time, once you've added in all the time spent to and fro to go elsewhere...it takes about 15 minutes to change your oil....

Just drain the old oil into any old container (To recycle it later...), change the filter, and re-fill it...it only takes less than 4 qts.

I save up the old oil, and then once in a while, if I'm going by there anyway, I drop the oil at the local shops that take recycling....maybe every 4-5 changes or so.

Plan B -

You are in NJ....Join up with NJAX

www.njax.net

We do maint/mod days, go wheeling together, etc...you could have a bunch of us help you out in case you are mechanically challenged, etc.

the 05's take about 5 1/4 qts of oil. (5 3/8 if you look in the manual). you could always bring it down to my ford dealership if you wanted. kinda far from cherry hill though (it's in hammonton). but we do oil changes on any cars, and i'll be there so you know there's someone there that's worked on xterra's before
