To mod or not to mod

To mod or not to mod - 11/01/04 09:53 AM

I have been tossing an idea around about modding my X or not. I surely want to go and trade the truck in for a 4X4. I was thinking about maybe putting on a lift, mounting some off road lights that I got for Xmas. What do you guys think. I'm not sure how long I will keep the truck since I just bought it last October. Also, any suggestions of how long I should keep the truck before trading it in??

Thanks

If i were you, i wouldnt do anything to your truck if your planing on trading it in soon. However, you could install everything and then later on when u eventually decide to sell it. Take everything off and sell it stock and put the things back on your new truck. Hope this will help u decide.

I agree. You have two simple choices, most depending upon how bad you want a 4X4. It also really depends upon how much 4X4 you really do.

1) Sell asap, get new 4X4 - install all new toys on new truck.

2) Wait, install all new toys on current truck, look for new truck, unistall all toys, sell current truck, re-install all toys on new 4X4 !!!

as far as not owing a shite load of money on your current x after you sell/trade it, you should keep it for 2 or 3 years so you can at least break even on your loan. i know it sucks to wait, but if you don't want an insane payment on the new truck it's the only way.

I traded my '02 4x2 X for a '03 4x4 X last year...and word of advise, if you are thinking about trading in yours...add an extra $100 or so to what you are paying now to your monthly payments...do that untill you are even or less on your payoff of what your X is worth (Kelly Blue Book) at the time...and then think about either Selling it or Trading it in...keep in mind, though...you will lose money, if you trade-in...no matter what...there's no such thing as a good deal when trading-in...but, do whatever would make you happy on the long run...that's what I did...Yeah, I lossed some bucks when I traded-in...but at least I'm Happy... smile
P.S....I wouldn't do any major mods to your X, untill you make up your mind of what you are going to do...

Better idea, private sale the two wheel drive. The dealers will bend you over and rape you on a trade-in.

Sell it yourself.

Do not mod it.

Buy that 4x4.

Check the values to see if you are ok selling it off.

I decided to keep it for a while. I think that I might go and throw some mods on it. I am also trying to restore my car. I have a 1966 Ford Custom 500 and I am going to finish the resto when it gets warmer. Thanks guys for you help on this one!!

If you ever decide to trade-in, you can always remove the mods and put them on your 4x4.

Hey, what are you 4x4'ers doing here! SHOO! SHOO!

Good choice. 4x2's are fun because you don't have to look as hard for an enjoyable challenge smile

If you have to use it, you didn't have any business being there to begin with.

Kinda like this forum!

Shove your transfer case and condescending 4-Lo shifter up your ass.
