Step one..

Step one.. - 15/11/04 03:29 PM

I have been working the last few weeks in antici........pation of Calmini releasing the SAS kit..

So..

I started rebuilding an axle for the job

Details..

I got the axle from a 81 Jeep Grand Waggy at a junk yard.

Had to replace the rotors and calipers (just because I am like that) Replaced all the bearings and seals. Put on the Warn manual hubs and replaced the R&P (shop did that)

Breakdown is like this.

Used axle 200.00
New R&P 129.00
Rebuild kit for diff 89.00
New carrier 65.00
Labor to set R&P 245.00
Rotors 80.00
Calipers 50.00
Brake pads 29.00
Locker 300.00
New U-joints 40.00
Misc seals and stuff 50.00

Total.. 1277.00
The only labor I did not do was set the R&P. Everything else can be done by someone with basic mechanical knowldge and the time/space to do it.

Start shopping for the axle now as it took me a few weeks to find a suitable one.

So I'm guessing you went with a lunchbox locker? like a lockright since you purchased a new carrier. Mine has worked well on the pathy but I'm going with something selectable this time for a number of reasons such a turning radius on the tight canyon trails we have out here.

What R&P ratio gears are you running?

You sticking with the non-greasable stock ball joints that came with the axle?

Does your drag link have a slight bend out ward in the center or is it the angle of the picture?

You may want to consider getting rid of the straps on the pinion yoke like the one shown for ubolts for the driveshaft since the straps are not as strong/known to bend.

Once you go SAS you never go back laugh

BTW did you forget to include the warn premium hubs in the breakdown? Listing part numbers and where you brought stuff may help others out.

Yes.. forgot to add the Warn hubs.. add another 100.00 on that total :-)

4.88 R&p

Not sure about the ball joints..

Yes that rod is tweaked and will be replaced. good eye.

Yes.. the straps are going bye bye

Carlton,

I seem to recall you had upgraded to the 4.90 gears, correct?

I figured it was a matter of time before you did an SAS, hasn't been much else for you to put on/in your X wink

Carlton, now we know why you have been absent around here for awhile smile Can you email me any specs and such so I can get started too? I am a novice at this but would like to get a headstart and do as much as I can myself.

Hey Abiel, how'd you make out with replacing that engine mount and fixing your mirror after Barnwell? I haven't heard a peep since. Glad you were out there!

Carlton,

That looks sweet. I like those off-blue calipers...
