2H is what you keep the truck in for normal use. go into 4H in snow, bad rain, when offroading, etc. N is for when you are being towed, need to push the car, and so on. If you are getting towed, you need to make sure that both sticks are in neutral. 4L is for when you're stuck in a ditch, etc, and only goes up to i think 30 mph.

also, you may still have the instructions right in front of you. Push your driver side visor down and look at the sticker on the ceiling behind it. Should be all you need.

wow...good thing you asked here first before experimenting on your own.

2hi for street use.
when offroad, shift to 4hi when under 25 mph. if going into 4lo, come to a complete stop during shifting in and out of 4lo.
and read your manual for good measure, buddy.

??? No where does the manual ever state to leave the transfer case in Neutral. They state if you must tow with the rear or all wheels down, that it only works with the manual tranny in Netrual and the transfer case in 2HI with the autolocking hubs unlocked, and it also warns that you can't do it over 60MPH and if you are going long distance to disconnect the propeller shaft to avoid damage...

It's all in the owners manual that Brent linked to...

To be clear - NEVER leave the transfer case in Neutral. In fact the sticker behind the visor explicitly warns you to not leave the transfer case in Neutral.

This has been cleared before on a previous thread. N is useless on the X, which is different from some other manufactures (GM), who's N is designed for flat towing.

Well until the other day I did not realize that the Neutral position on the T-case kept the front and rear driveshafts locked together. I apologize for the stupidity displayed in my previous, above comment.
