Hey I am trying to find out what i will need to convert my 2003 2wd into a 4wd. I have a 2003 SE. I did not know if the frames and rear end were the same. Also I did not know what parts I needed to get. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sell it and buy a 4x4. Not flaming you, it really is the most inexpensive way to do it. laugh

I agree with Daggerdoggie. To give you just a taste of costs, consider that you'll have to swap out your transmission (regardless of whether it's a stick or auto).

If you want to wait for a bit, one of the encxc members just got what he needs to convert his fronty over. Although he does know his sheet when it comes to fabricating... Screen name over there is Houdini if you want to ask a few questions....

not worth the time or cost. Sell it and buy one or live without. I know some people that attpempted it with other trucks and after a trip to the parts store for the parts they needed they just gave up.

I dont really agree with that mentality.. Im not saying its easy, but a paid off truck does help as well as having something to drive in the mean time. If you have the skills, custom fab/welding... it should be a good project. Im all for fostering the do it yourself hobbiest. However if you have trouble installing bolt on parts then yes your best bet is to trade in and get a 4wd. You are looking at a complete wiring harness/ecu swapout so its not at all easy, but it can be done as some members here have done it. Build your rig how you want it, just dont bite off more than you can chew. Its not something you can take to a 4x shop and have it done in a weekend. Your best bet is to get the tranfercase/front diff and all crossmembers/parts from someone who has done a SAS swap. Its a huge project, no doubt... but dont get discouraged if you have the skills. Its your rig, build it how you want it. Personally I have a huge amount of respect for those who do SAS swaps and major mods that go beyond the straight bolt in kits. Good luck with it if you choose to do it.

It is not hard to do just time consuming getting all the needed parts. I did mine for 3500.00 but all the parts are new or rebuilt. That price includes Full skids(skidRow) Sliders(shrockworks)
Calmini Steering SLR diff drop kit. I added a bunch of things I thought were needed but not necessary. heres some pictures.

Yeah Lance followed in my footsteps, only us two have done it (to my knowledge).

Mine has been converted and wheelin' for two over two years (hard to believe).

Economically speaking, the cheapest way to do it is to say to heck with building the X and buy a cheap beater 4x4 that you can mod and wheel to your heart's content. But then you wouldn't get to have all the wheelin' fun in your X.

My homepage has most all the info you need, and Lance has a lot of good pictures on his site (posted above).
