Just curious...

If you don't use 4x4 for a while, does anyone drop it in and drive down the block a ways just to "get the oil sloshin' around" a bit, or does normal driving do enough of that? It is kind of thick oil in there...

I think that Normal Driving would do enough of that. I hadn't been off roading for about a 8 months until 3 weeks ago, and I didn't notice any problems or anything.

That's what I'm thinking, with the thicker oil, and that it doesn't really get that hot (thinner) during normal driving.

I'm thinking more long-term, just to keep oil on the metal to prevent any rust or other corrosion.

Put in 4hi as you start off, then right back in 2hi as you drive. That will lock the hubs and get everything from the t-case forward spinning. You want to bring everything up to full operating temp to drive out moisture and such. Let it go for several miles.

Ahh, thanks Brent - that's good thinking. Keep the stuff in motion, but not fully in 4wd and then you can drive around on the road without breaking stuff. I was thinking just a straight line down the block, but letting it get fully warmed up, etc. sounds like a better idea.

Good tip!
