There is no mass production conversion kit. You will need to get it customed. It is gunna run you $$$, but if money isn't an issue it can be done. Find a custom fab shop in your area and let them take a look at your truck.

Take the loss on a trade-in and get a 4x4. Much more financially sane.

It's kinda like watching the same movie 100 times over and over. You know exactly who, when and what will be said.

This has been posted 1 million times before!!! [Huh?]

NO

Sell the 4x2 and get a 4x4 but if you have all the spare money in the world it can be done. But I would prefer if you send it to me for an SAS kit.

There is no cheap solution.

Yes it can be done, but it is THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!!!

Can it be dont cheaper??? If you are a very experienced mechanic with tons of tools and equipment at your disposal & you do ALL the work yourself.

Sell the 4x2 and get a 4x4 but if you have all the spare money in the world it can be done. But I would prefer if you send it to me for an SAS kit. [Smoking] Just to put a point on it.

I'll say it again as well. Oh, by the way I also responded with the same thing in this same exact topic in the 4wd forum.

Yep. It's called take it back to the dealer and trade it in for a 4wd model. laugh In all seriousness that is the best thing for you to do. I had a '03 XE 2wd with the 4 banger and was thinking about doing the same thing as you but it's way to expensive to do it and besides the '05 is still very new and aftermarket is almost non-existant besides the couple of things that Shrockworks, Calmini and the others are working on.

Please delete the double thread in the 4x4 section. There are many people here that read this site to see your thread in just one section

I'm more like - Purchased a 4x2 before joining the club and realising how much additional fun a 4x4 would be. What people seem to forget is, how capable the X is off road in 2WD. I say keep the thing for 2 years and enjoy taking it off road with a group of 4x4 owners to see what she can do!

Trading my 2WD for a 4x4 OR in the new year smile

sure a 2wd is capable if you equip it right and drive it right, but if he really wants to wheel, he's gonna need 4wd, he's gonna have fun in 2wd until the rest of the pack throws it in 4 and keeps going down the trail that keeps getting more difficult, or the mud gets thicker, while he has to back off and go home or ride with someone, and he's gonna be wishing he had a 4x4, i love playing in 2wd but if i get stuck, or i start getting to a rough part of the trail, i know i can just throw it into 4wd and keep having fun, where a 2wd X can't unfortunatly, if it was me, i would trade it in ASAP and get a 4wd X, but it all depends on the wheeling he's doing/wants to do...

Trading it in this soon would result in a huge loss. But not as much as trying to convert the 2WD to 4x4. If you purchased the 2WD in the first place (Like myself) then you are obviously new to the Off Road world. I stick with my Keep it for a year or 2 and do some mild off roading advise. Just stay clear of big deep muddy puddles and rock crawling and you can pretty much do anything else.

Taken my 2WD up some nasty loose gravel / dirt inclines and through 3ft deep muddy washes (Okay it was only about 6ft wide, but it was still a little scary! smile My X shocks the hell out of me every time I take it off road.

Keep it, enjoy it and trade it for a 4x4 when you don't take so much of a hit. Unless you're loaded and don't care about the money, then just trade it now.

Either way...If you wait or Trade it in ASAP, you will still lose out on $$$...But, if you trade it in ASAP, you will lose some $$$ but you will still be making your usual Monthly Payments in that Time Frame that you are paying for your 4x2...vs, if you wait, you will still lose some $$$, but you will still have to pay more Monthly Payments in a longer Time Frame...so I would trade it in ASAP...

Ok, DJ Fred,

SEARCH FIRST, ASK QUESTIONS LATER!!!!!
Oh, and it's a 4x2 NOT a 2x4...that's a piece of wood...
and I second Alpine's advice, but send the money to me for the SAS smile

Really it wont cost alot. A 2x4 can be had for a couple of dollars then just nail it glue it whatever (depends on how hard your going to be on it) to the 2x4 you already have. laugh

The cheapest would be to remove all the front end suspension related parts, put in a custom solid axle swap, brakes & steering, a divorced transfercase. new crossmember or 2, 2 new driveshafts, the transfercase linkages, about a 6" lift put back so you won't drive around ass low all the time.
I would *GUESS* 5 to 8k.
keep in mind, this would make your truck more capable offroad then all the 4x4 factory, and lifted trucks. Add a pair of lockers (if you don't already have one) and you would be at the top of the heap for capability..

yah. i wish i would of bought the 4x4. i think i would of payed the same, trust me. But anyhoot.... i bought a 1996 Dodge Ram back in '95 and i told myself next truck/suv id buy would be a 4x4. Well, since then i had no reason for buying a 4x4 and gas prices and insurance would go up....so i figured, what the heck. I bought a '05 Xterra 4x2 and the thought still runs through my head, "damn. maybe i should of bought a 4x4". They're just so fun to have...... (im guessing)..... plus the options are always there.
