I don't see why not. You may want to look into beefing up the intake/exhaust to pull a few more ponies out, but you're only down by about 40 HP.

light offroading, not a problem, you've got clearance.

medium? maybe if you lock it and get some good tires. I feel the X really doesn't have that much traction in 2wd.

Edit:

BTW, the power is not an issue. Offroad and in bad weather, you're pulling more power than your read tires can handle. The only place you'd want a larger engine is on the highway.
