Hey guys/gals,
I have just bought a hitch receiver winch. I of course have a Nissan rear hitch. The (lame) local "Hidden Hitch" dealer has goofed on my front hidden hitch twice. Any of you use one? If so what results? I'd love to be able to use the hitch to pull myself out of challenges. The 4x4's are always around but I hate feeling obligated. Maybe an 02 4x4 but not sure yet!

Thanks,

The main problems with the removable winches are:

1) You can't leave it on when 'wheeling except on flat land because it utterly ruins your approach or departure angle.

2) You're quite apt to find yourself stuck in a position where you can't even mount the winch in the receiver once you're stuck because of something in the way.

No thanks,
Brent

Brent,
Points well taken!! With a 4X2 I need all the help I can get so I will wait and see. What about lockers? You seem to be experienced off road hence your user name. ARB air lockers would not kill me but are they worth it? I know 4X4 is the way to go but I want to see the 02's before I decide on it vice the 01. I want to go off road and as I said I hate to depend totally on the 4x4's. They don't seem to mind but I do.

Thanks Again,
Roger

A rear locker would help, but still not as much as an open-diff 4X4.

Save the cash, wait for July 11th.

Heh, I'm not that experienced But I'm with Ian, it's much better to absorb the hit of an upgrade to a 4x4 a few bucks at a time on a 5-year loan than to cough up a grand all at once to get a locker and have it installed. The 4x4 will take you further than a locked 4x2 in most cases. That, and you get to start over with a fresh truck with a fresh warranty.

Brent

downside is the bump in insurance...

for me in CA it would be extreme.

i have looked at making my X the "most capable 4x2 X on the planet" by adding a ARB locker and Revolver shackles.

tossing around the idea because my insurance would take a substantial bump being i am 25 with 3 tickets the 4x4 would just kill me.

nonethe less if i find i do like the '02 in person i may be inclined to get a 4x4 '02 now if nissan would only make it in a charcoal gray

I have my 4X2 now but I already have a 02 ordered. The only reason we got the X in a 4X2 was because I had a 97 pathfinder with 4X4 and saw no reason to have another 4X4. Boy was I wrong. I sold the pathy and now have just the X. Oh well I will not let it hender my ability. The 02 will however be a 4X4.

i was at the dealer last week and they have no info on the '02... i know more about it.

the guy told me
"it is the same except the headlights look different and you can get the Super-charger"

he had no idea it had a new interior, redesigned hood, the change in wheel sizes, etc.

i will take a look when they come out.

as for the sig... im thinking i will change it periodicly... i got a bunch of quotes i really like... this one i found someone using on another board and thought it suited me

Not is nothing for the insurance Kuuipo owns the X and she is 20. So she pays 260 a month. Once she turns 21 she will only have to pay 142.00 a month. Talk about robbery.

Does anyone see any reason to have a wench on a 2WD.

I would think the winch would get a lot more use on a 2WD than a 4WD. I wish we had put up the money for the 4x4, but we didn't and don't had the grip to take the hit on a trade-in.

With my X the way it is, I would never think of taking it out without having someone along to help me out if I get in over my head. It would be nice to have the insurance of the winch along.
