I'm looking to SAS my X in the near future. Picked up the a 1991 Wagoneer D44 (62.5" WMS to WMS) that's I'm cleaning up.

Originally, I was planning on using the complete Calmini kit. After doing a bit of $$$ math I figured out that I wasn't going to have the budget to do it right so I started reading through most every thread in this section from the back forward. It took me about a month of reading a few threads a night. Mad props to all of you who've contributed information on the SAS process over the years. Lot's of good reading material.

Here are some of the notes I've complied from all the information you guys have provided.

Well as you found out there is no real cheap way to SAS and do it right, although there is less expensive ways of going about it.

As the moment CALMINI is the only one offering mostly bolt-on kits and you can make parts of their leaf kit for the WD/D21trucks work on an X like some have.

Other kits from AP or ORS need more work and will end up costing more than CALMINI but the benefits might be worth it to some. If you’re looking for more flex than the radius arm designs provide, these 3/4link kits are better in that regard.

From a cost standpoint leafs are the least expensive, but with the axle (low pinion) you have a front SOA is going to be more complex and you would need to cut and turn the knuckles. Better to start with a high pinion axle for those like Cyclemut did.

Coil-overs are the premium route since you’re going to spend ~$800 on just those, other option is a standard coils and shocks.

While mostly custom, the 3-link Barry did on his pathy came out really nice. He used some off the shelf brackets and whatnot to save some time. Cost wise I think it might be bit less than a kit and a good alternative IMO

5.13 gears would be best in X to run 35's

why?

in run 4.88 and im perfect on 37's

my buddy is riding 4.56 on 37's and hes fine...5.13 seems a little off for 35's

Because 5.13 gets you closest to stock gearing.
