Hi guys,

Since deserts tend to get hot during summers, I have been thinking of exploring Northern CA or Nevada. Is there something interesting within 10-12 hours of driving from SF Bay Area? Ideally, I'd like to get out of town for about a week. If any of you know places and would like to explore them as well, please let me know.

I would recommend a loop that takes you up through Lassen Nat'l Park, Mt. Shasta, and up to Crater Lake.

Alternatively, consider a loop that takes you out to the eastern Sierras, down 395, and back around to the central valley via 178. There are a lot of really interesting trails out there. You can even check out Sequoia/Kings Cyn Nat'l Park.
