I recently posted about a trip we had planned(june 28th&29th) because it was towards the north end of where we normally go, thought it might be within range of some of you. Since then I've been reading and it sounds like some of you travel in and around the southern CA area, Santa Barbara, deserts and so forth.... so I guess the question is, where do you guys like to go? Whats too far for a day trip? An overnight trip? Longer? Our Pathfinder friend and we plan and execute a trip a month, you want that they should be posted even if they're more southern? We're not thinking anything desert till late fall/winter as temps are just too high to make it fun, but come winter, I've got to go see those "moving rocks" in the desert...

I like to go to the desert alot, but it's 6-8 hours away, so that means min. 3 day /2 night trips.

Moving rocks like this at Death Valley?

Yeah, those rocks are something I've got to see before I die. Also on the list is molten lava(not the Xterra color, but the real stuff). So I guess that means Hawaii, is there anywhere else you can find it reliably?

How fast do they go? Do you have to be careful where you put your drinks down? I bet you could race one of those and win in the X! laugh wink

Lassen Volcanic is pretty cool, but I don't think anything is active. Lots of good scenery though...Lack of funding has me graounded for the longer trips right now, but I was game for some of them. I even get a head start in most cases smile

Keep on posting those trips! Although day-trips to the Fresno area are probably going to be a bit far for most of us bay-area folks, 2-day or 3-day camping trips in that area would be cool.

We spent time at the base of Volcan Arenal in Costa Rica and were presented with a great show of molten lava. The night show was awesome. The lava would come spewing over the crest and speed down the face of the mountain, at first very quickly, but then slowing and loosing the red glow as it cooled.
As for travel..we go over night at least twice a month, in summer, as far as 9 hours (Bend) away. And we're always looking for new places to explore so please do post your travel adventures. We're headed for Wikiup Resevoir, next t0 Bend, OR, 7/2-7/8 and have been doing some research on wheelin' up thataway, though it hasn't been overly fuitfull. We will post what we find.

Also, we did drive past Racetrack, in Death Valley, last fall, but alas the rocks were quite still....I reckon they need rain and lots o' wind to get motorin along...
