It's that time of the year again. Time to get warmed up for the new season. The snow is still quite thick up in the Sierras and I'm not a huge fan of snow wheelin. So why not hit up Hollister for a quick fix?

This will be a good trip for any unexperienced off-roaders that would like to get out and learn a few things about the sport. So if you haven't had a chance to put your Xterra in 4lo and really test the truck's ability, Sun would be perfect for you.

The plan will be to meet at the Obsticle Course between 11am and 1pm. I'll be BBQing for lunch there in case anyone wants to join us. We will then do some trails and hang out about the park.

More info on Hollister can be found here: http://www.hollisterhills.com/

If you plan on attanding please sign up here so that I know who to expect. smile

I'm definitely interested. I just have to convince my wife that we won't be thrashing the X just yet. We don't even have 1000 miles on it yet, so we're trying to be easy on it..... for now. I really do want to meet some of you all from NCCX, so I'll plan on being there more for the social aspect than anything else!

Rich, coals (I'm actually bringing a gas grill) will be lit around 11 or so. There are coal pits there if you want BBQ with coals though.

Jenirah, there won't be any trashing of vehicles. smile You are welcome to try what you are comfortable with and it's more about fun than pushing limits. Most of my enjoyment at Hollister comes from watching the idiots sink, blow-up, and trash their rigs at the obsticle course. [Laughing]

My wife and I will be spending the night up north in Olema for a long overdue get-away but we are expecting to be home Sunday before noon. I need to play with my new front LSD so I'll try and make it to Hollister. Post what FRS channel you'll be on and I'll check when I get there. [ThumbsUp]

You should be fine with your stock tires. Hollister offers everything from mild dirt logging roads all the way up to frame twisting top truck challenge trails. You should be albe to do everything that we are going to do as a group in a stock Xterra. smile

oh - sounds like fun - esp w/ the little sprinkles today - would make for good mud.
but i can't go we've already got plans.

& just last wk i was driving back from LA passing thru the hollister/gilroy area, i saw quite a few 4-wheelers all covered in mud on the freeway.

have fun - maybe we'll catch you guys next time.

Finally a group outing for the new season and I cannot make it. mad My wife let it slip that I am getting some Shrock works sliders for my B-day. Man I wish I didn't know, the waiting is killing me. [LOL] Can't wait to get out again. You can only hit the local mudholes so many times before people start to look at you funny. [Too much XOC] Hope meet you all at a later date.

Kaotik, good to see you on the board again. Last time I saw you, you were heading out to pick up a Helicopter way back in November.

Looking forward to doing some runs with you all this year.

Alright, alright...I'll join. :p

How about we meet @ IN-N-OUT parking lot off of 101 Rengstorff Exit about 9:30 am?

And, how about anyone who wants to meet in South San Jose to caravan down, we can meet @ USA gas station off of S85/S101 Bernal Rd Exit about 10:00 am? (..take the exit and head to Monterey Hwy. The gas station is @ the corner.)

Oh, and I'll be picking up my lunch @ Taco Bell in Hollister before arriving at the Hollister Hills. I'm too lazy to just sit and wait for BBQ... laugh

I'll be leaving my house in San Francisco around 11ish, so should hit Hollister by 12:30 or so. I'll also be bringing a newb 4-wheeler friend of mine who's gotten his hands on a lifted Ford Ranger that he wants to get dirty! I say we strand him in the frame-twister, but that may not be nice!

Some quick advice for the Hollister nubies. smile
Here\'s the directions to the park

Once you get close, you will see signs pointing to the park. When you get there check in at the ranger station and pay the $4 admission fee. Then continue down the road till you reach the green gate, enter the code for the lock, and continue on to the obsticle course. I'll be there between 11am and 1pm.

If you are in the South Bay and would like to caravan down check out XSAL post above and meet him at the USA gas station. [ThumbsUp]

Some other general advice...Bring any recovery gear that you might have and tools if you have any that is portable. Don't worry if you don't have either, but it is proper trail etiquete to bring your own gear to repair or unstuck your own vehicle.
