Since I am not a experienced 4x4'er and have a stock X, I looked for some easy trails. I found one in the Backcountry Adventures book called Granite Gorge Overlook Trail. It was rated a 3. We got stuck once and was able to back out. There were a lot of rocky areas but nothing too difficult. I earned my first pinstripes and had a blast. We found a great waterfall/pond half way to cool off in. Here are some pic's. The first one shows the road we came down on the left. The one on the right has a small sign "cars not recommended".

We passed by that spot on Sat. That is a very scenic trail. The pool and waterfall was a surprise to see.

We were camped at Sawmill Flat CG and took the trail on the way to Spanish Trail which is on the other side of Wishon Dam.

He loves the water. Even if it's a cold day he will jump right in and stay there. It was in the mid 80's as I recall.

That trail is about as advanced I can get right now. No way I can do Spanish. I would like to get the Xterra upto being able to do some better trails like Bald Mtn.

Dude, you're a diver!? I'm a diver!? How often you go? I'm thinking of going in a few weeks. Anyone else a diver here?

Next time you're in the area let me know, I'd be wheel! Bald mountain is do-able stock, we had a stocker up there in june, I've got pics, but can't remember where they are at the moment. Brewer lake is also do-able.

How tough is Spanish, it's on my to-do list, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Try the link in my signature for pics of us in that area, there should even be some of the stocker on Bald Mtn.

I wasn't certain about Bald Mtn. Some resources said difficult and others easiest. I would try it with some experienced people sometime.

I have not been in the water for about a year and even then it was only the Breakwater. I had knee surgery and it has taken a while to recover. On that dive at Breakwater, I had to kick in with one leg. So I vowed to get back into shape first. It is now about time, the knee is healed and I am upto about 2 miles on the treadmill without pain. Just took my gear in for service and will be checking the rest this week. After a little more time working out I will be ready. Probably mid-sept.

When I was there it was the mid to upper 80's. We headed for the lakes everyday where it was a lot cooler.
