Hey NCCX [Wave] July is normally the month for CALX so we been talking about it down south recently

The Santa Barbara area is the preferred one from the people I've talked to our the club. That brings up a lot of possibilities and I know that some of you NCCX folks have liked this venue in past and it has been considered each time.

I'm thinking about drafting some plans now and could post them soon to include some beautiful trails, hot springs, geo-caching, cave exploring, historic sites, camping, beach BBQ bash, night run, etc. but what to get your feedback on the date(s) venue first.

Keep in mind that CALX's are always special and we focus less on off-roading and more on relaxing and stuff for everybody/the whole family.

BTW on a seperate note I will be in the lake tahoe area the second week of sept to run the rubicon laugh if anybody is intrested in joining us for that one?

Take care & please let me know

Brian

Just retuned from Rubicon....In a fully built FJ40
Would love to escort an adventurous fellow X owner through...expect serious damage and major on trail repair, but at the same time, a lot of support!
If you're serious, let me know!
BTW, I will be posting a report of the last 4 days on the Rubicon from Wentworth Springs on through! It includes a built Jeep, upside down!
Is this a bad subject to be posting here on the X site?

Hell no, just not a built X wheels up. laugh

Brian-
Santa Barbara sounds interesting, give rough ideas of what/where.
I still think eastern Sierra, Bodie, Mono Lake etc. would make a great CalX area, maybe next year or in October with fall colors.

Mono county (eastern Sierra) has over 30,000 miles of 4x4 trails and roads. Bishop, just a few minute south of the Mono county line, would be a good base as it is surrounded by trails and has the conviences of civilization. Inyo county also has plenty in the way of off road fun. A local expert would be John Crowne in Mammoth. Just ask anyone in Mammoth for him or stop in the Clock Tower bar and ask for him.

I too am kind of partial to the Bishop...Mono county area. I consider that Big Sky country and nothing is better in my opinion within driving distance.

Santa Barbara does sound nice also, have never been down there. What is that from Sac area...bout a 5..6 hour drive? Might be to far for me.

FYI eastern Sierra, Bodie, Mono Lake, mammoth/bishop etc was the other area that some in our club are the most interested in.

I'm fine with either venue; to me Santa Barbara would be the more civilized choice with no real challenging 4x4 trails but the beach, restaurants, town, missions, etc. while the eastern sierra would be the more remote, rugged with the wide open spaces, richer in geology, beautiful lakes, large mountain terrain and more challenging trails.

If somebody can give me a census from NCCX about the eastern sierra with the proposed date(s) such as Oct 10-13 then I'm sure we could work something out smile

Of course since you guys know the area better (never been wheeling in the area myself) assistance with the plans & trail bossing would be very helpful. Are there a couple of lead people from NCCX that we can work with?

BTW about the Rubicon yeah I'll be taking my built SAS 90 Pathy and maybe my X also if I have time to work on it this summer.
