Should be a great action packed weekend of exploring and off-roading one of my favorite places to visit laugh
http://www.sccxterra.com/xcursion49.html

Very scenic with some interesting rock formations, trees, historic mine sites, etc. We will be running a lot of trails so the going will be fast pace to Pickham & Thermal Cyns, Berdoo Cyn, Old Dale Road, Brooklyn Mine, etc.

Camping is available but tends to fill up with rock climbers this time of year, so I suggest you make arraignments sooner than later.

So who's planning on attending? which day(s)?

BTW the 04' calendar has been posted
http://www.sccxterra.com/xcalendar.html

Hope to CYA [Wave]
Brian

I have not been out there (J-tree) with the club yet, but there have always been 4x2's on each Xcursion I have attended. I don't see why this one would be any different. Besides, there should be nothing a nice tow strap can't fix.

Count me in. My flight should be in on that Friday the 23rd sometime.

Can I hitch a ride with someone from the San Diego area?

Hey Travis -

I'm planning on going, so you're welcome to hop a ride with me if you want.

about the meeting place...
i've been on that part of the 10 freeway and i'm familiar with the joshua tree exit. but don't remember anything mentioning cactus city. is it simply the rest stop BEFORE the joshua tree exit, coming from the 10 East freeway?

Looks like I have to work on Sunday so I will be just day tripping in on Sat. Anyone from the L.A. area want to caravan to the meeting site?

Close to Magic Mountain, so more like Valencia really. But no too far to consider it the L.A. area IMHO. I at least have to drive through part of it to get to J-tree.

Thanks, My flight, DELTA 1977 from Atlanta, will arrive 6:17 PM in San Diego.

Would it asking too much for a pick up from San Diego International, hitch the weekend in Joshua Tree, and then drop me off at North Island Naval Air Station on Sunday night?

No prob...were you thinking about wanting to head out straight from the airport and finding an early camp spot Friday night or leave Sat. morning and meet up with everyone else? I don't know if you've got stuff to do or need to stay on base when you get in or not. Just let me know.

It was a great Xcursion. I finally got to meet Snoopy too. [ThumbsUp]

Here are some pictures and comments of the Xcursion:
http://www.fototime.com/inv/D61674DB41C43D7

Look at all those dangerous and scary activites SCCX members do.

I guess we deserve that reputation since we go out a lot more often then any other Xterra club. :p

Can't wait until the next one!

Just a funny campground story from Sat. night.

Andy had climbed up on the rocks above our campfire (without any of us knowing he was there) to take a picture.

Apparently, he had a Sobe Ice Tea with him that he accidentally dropped and it came bombing down into us.

Fortunately, it didn't hit anyone (it was full and you know how thick those Sobe bottles are), but we laughed it off and nicknamed him (after a few beers, mind you) the Tea Sniper for quietly almost killing one of us! The amazing thing is that bottle didn't break...impressive.

Man, I wish I could've braved the temperature drop and just camped with you guys. Missed all the good stuff!

i got to the meeting spot at around 9:50-10:00, but i didn't see anyone frown . maybe i was at the wrong spot? the meeting time was 9:30, right? i was coming from 10East and exited the rest stop before Joshua Tree. damn this is the second time i've come so close, yet missed it.

for xcursions, it seems i'm only 1-for-3 frown . i'll try to make the next one, at least that'll give me a 50% ratio.

Hey ClaptoVaughn,

We stayed close to 9:55AM before heading out. You must have "just" missed us. If you had your FRS on, you would have heard us on the radio as the start of the Xcursion was less then 5 miles away from the meeting spot.

Next time give us a yell before giving up. USARock (Yellow Xterra) came like 5-10 minutes after we left the meeting spot and found us when we were all airing down.

CV,

Bummer man frown always best to post up/let others know your planning on attending and also give a shout out on the FRS like somebody else mentioned. If we're anticipating someone we normally give them a call on a cell phone # if they haven't shown up or give them a alternative meet spot later in the date.

Hopefully next time and please post up if your planning on going.

Brian

There's a good explanation posted today on the sccxterra.com board.

As for the FRS channel, it is always (or at least seems to be) listed at the bottom of the information link for the Xcursion. Scroll down the the communications will be on FRS channel "BLAH" line. Should be the very last thing listed.
