Hey everyone I'm new and I have been wheeling for about a yr now and read something about an Indian Truck Trail run for a beginner run. In all honesty I think that is a great ride to learn how to controll your vehicle and getting used to differing terrain.

Has anyone checked out this website?
web page
These people do assorted short and long range trips into Baja and mainland Mexico. I'm fairly familiar with most of northern and central Baja. We could start doing some short intro trips. Someone mentioned Canon de Guadelupe last month. This could be combined with a visit to Laguna Hansen in the mountains above. Or, a northern Pacific coastal trip (fishing, surfing?)that included a venture up to Mikes Sky Ranch, Meling Ranch (wild trout fishing). Or, an extended Pacific side trip that included a visit to the famed San Ignacio Lagoon for Grey Whale close encounters. Or, a northern gulf side trip from San Felipe to Puertocitos, to Bahia Gonzaga, to Bahia de Los Angeles and home on asphalt. Tons to see and do down there!

A visit down south to Baja would be an adventure and a new experience for many of us. Ever since watching my first Baja 1000 event, I've always wanted to run the trail to Mike's Sky Ranch. I'm in.

Now, I just need to get a rack/tanks to carry extra gas! Autozone was very pleased to give me store credit on the two 5 gal plastic tanks I had for Death Valley. They both leaked. smile

Yup, I'm in for a BAJA run laugh Talked to SLR about it...they where into & wanted get nissan involved.

Snoopy was talking about organizing MEX for a fall run with some charity work to deliver some goods to the kids up in the mountains.

I was thinkin of making at least one trip a club sanctioned event. We would need to pick a fair weather month. Northern Baja sees a similar winter to our own here in So Cal. However, late August and September are the Chubasco (hurricane) seasons and the lower extremities of the peninsula can get hammered. Rest of the year is good down there but, can get real warm in the summer months. Baja Norte and So Cal can even be affected by the resultant rains that push north from the chubascos. Roads and weather can be hell....surf can be bitchin'. Anyway, late June and all of July are usually safe, mild, and balmy months in the north and would be the best intro months for an official club trip.
One other major point, passports would be required..new law down there. So, a trip to a participating post office might be in order for some. Many have complete service, including photos.
An good initial club trip could be most any 3 day itinerary north of San Quintin. We need to get a concensus of what type of trip (sights, activities) people are interested in.
Read up, or whatever, and chime in!

^^^ Sounds cool.

I've made 2 self-sanctioned expedition trips south of the border. Both to surf spots about 200-300 mi past the San Yisidro crossing. Extra fuel and water are a must, as are metal fuel containers.

Here's an add'l link for prospective vagabundos. I'll add more as I find them to be current.
bajanomad Check some of the links in the strings for recent trips. There's a nice link to a blog for a San Diego family that has been adventuring in Baja for nearly 70 years. They visited Guadelupe and had a gazillion kids with them. All had a blast.
Also, you might check "The Baja Adventure Book" by Peterson and "The Baja Book #?" by Tom Miller, I have #3 from my past Baja days but I'm sure he's put out a new one by now. Also, the world famous "Baja Almanac".
