Hey...

Just finished a little clean up work...I finally took the gear basket and wind deflector off to clean underneath...First of all, yeech! Second, by the feel of the paint under there, I guess the dealer didn't pay much attention under there.

After completing my clean up, I was getting ready to put the deflector and basket back on...When I looked at the truck, I gotta say it looked pretty damn cool without it...Anyone else take off the w/d and basket? Lemme know.

Step away from the keyboard, and go put that back on before toss my cookies. Seriously I think it looks much better on, but I think I'm just used to it. Plus, it helps it stand out like it's supposed to.

I had my wind deflector and gear basket off and I liked the way it look AFTER I moved one of the cross bars to the front of the roof rack. But, I just put both of them back on after about three weeks with them off and it is a good change. I agree though, a lot of gunk does get caught underneath.

OK, me. I took them off as soon as I got it home from the dealer. They haven't been back on since. And I love it that way. But each to their own.

Besides I've recently realized that it allows you room to move the cross bars further forward if needed. This works out nicely to tie down my kayak. On bar is all the way back, the other is a couple inches forward of the center supports.

So come forth and join the brotherhood of basketless, deflectorless XTerras!

I had my basket and deflector off until I did the see-thru deflector mod. Now that I can see thru the sunroof, everything is back on.
I think it looks good either way though. And I do remove the deflector and basket when doing a complete cleaning.

The gear basket came off the day I bought the X in August so I could open the sky roof & I kept it off for the winter's snows. Now with the see through wind deflector, as well as the return of warmer weather, the basket stays off.

Yeah, I'll probably wind up putting it back on at some point, but all that yeech underneath...Gross!
