While I was shopping at Wal-Mart, someone "keyed" my 2001 "Just Blue" Xterra! It was definitely intentional and very cruel. Does anyone know a relatively inexpensive way to repair it? So far, I've been quoted around $400-500 and man, that's a bunch. Any ideas?

hmmm, hope it wasn't Jonathon getting xterra envy after having his repoed. [Freak]

There's been a few others that have been keyed as well, sorry to hear about it. I'd look back through the archives to find how they took care of it.

Gerigall -
Sorry to hear about that.
The type of repair depends on how 'deep' the surface was 'keyed'. There are three basic layers that make up the paint that covers the sheet metal. The clearcoat(surface), color coat then primer.
Repairs increase in difficulty as each layer is damaged.

dave and xtoy - what's wrong with them?

oh yea, always remember to check all around your x before you get in it after leaving it somewhere...that way you will at least know when it happened.

I think the people doing this must be Ford Escape owners and they are jealous because we can go places they can not.

How would you feel if you did not have a true frame and drove a girls SUV. That sucks for them.

Contact your insurance carrier, it is covered under your comprehensive policy; which is normally a smaller deductible amount.
Most "key jobs" are quite expensive to repair and normally require refinishing of the affected panels. With all of the de-trim and blend panels, I normally get at least $1000.00 to $1500.00 per side.

Yeah, you can add me to the keyed list. I had a big X carved in my back hatch a coupl eof weeks ago. Luckly I work at a body shop and got it fixed for free. Other wise it is pretty costly if it's a deeper scratch. Sorry to hear about the X. frown

If your driving behind me, you can't possibly miss the ABC that some idiot keyed on the back of my X. Whoever decided to practice his alphabets on my X had to really hate me or hate the fact that I drive an X.

That gives me an thought. If Nissan won't fix the rust on my hatch I can key it and have insurance cover it??

That's a great idea, just let them know you'd like to cash in your 'insurance fraud' freebie and they'll be happy to help you out.

"A GIRL'S SUV"? puhleeze. Does that mean I shouldn't drive an Xterra cuz I'm a chick?? Maybe I should go to the Ford dealer and see if I can get a trade-in on my X for something more appropriate.

(sorry, off topic...)

Mine's been scratched a couple times, always in the same place on passenger door. It's cost me in the ballpark of $800 each time because they have to remove everything do paint. Mine's "Sun Yellow," I figure it'll come back to them in karma. Thankfully my insurance ded. is only $250.

Ive been keyed as well. The bastards keyed the entire left side of my car. It cost $1200 to have the damage repaired. However it was a good thing I filed a police report cause when I turned that into the insurance company, the damage qualified as vandalism (obviously). So they paid for the entire paintjob. I did not have to pay a deductable or anything which was nice. Anyways too all the fucking assholes who key cars...I hope ur car blows up. [Finger]
