X needing some assistance

This is very strange so here goes... I washed my X last week... Added Armor All to the tires to give that "special look"... Well, when rain started to pour a few days ago, both my rear tires started to develop a white "mildew" like appearance to them... So yesterday I decided to clean my tires. I used Simply Green with water and applied it to the tires using a soft tire brush... It looked great! I then applied a coat of Armor All to all four of my tires... When I looked at my tires this morning, the front tires looked fine, but my rear tires had that F*@!kin' white mildew all over them... As if I never cleaned them! Remember, I live in southern california... There's no rock salt or anything that some of you get in other parts of the state...
Would some please shed some light this way! I hope my X didn't contract some sort of "tire virus" or something... Thanks everyone!

That's some weird s#!+. I would try cleaning the tires and not ArmorAll'ing them. See if the still get moldy.

I have used armor all forever and have never seen that happen!! I don't know what to say other than what spike said. Maybe the water has something to do with it??

You might try switching to some of that no wipe tire dressing and see if you have the same effect. Armor All makes some in a spray bottle that lasts way longer on our X than standard Armor All, and is easier. But I never had the white stuff when I used normal Armor All. maybe it is a virus? Have you ever read the Andromeda Strain?

Armor All tends to get milky white when it gets wet - perhaps it dries this way? Like someone else said - try another dressing like "No Touch" (what I use) as it seems to hold up better than Armor All.

That's a new one. I've heard of armor-all, over used, building up in the grain of vinyl convertible tops, but... For your situation I would suggest cleaning the tires with Wesley's Bleach-White. It is a strong cleaner so read and follow the label. It will remove the dull oxidized rubber. Dress the tires with Meguiars Endurance product. You can't do better than that.

Make sure that stuff is safe for alloy wheels if you have 'em. We had some Bleche-White years ago and I seem to remember it wasn't...

As I noted, READ THE LABEL! For those that cannot read, the label warns against use on surfaces other than the rubber tire. That would include the wheels and any other painted surfaces. Wearing rubber gloves and applying with a rag or sponge is a simple solution. Of course, some people should not use strong products.

Armor-All did the same thing to my tires as well. I had to use a brush to get that stuff off. I changed to 2001 formula and it quit. Weird!!!

Just a note on scrubbing your tires. Never use a steel brush or a SOS pad, always use a plastic brush or anything softer. The metal will remove the parafin coating, especially on white letters. This will cause the rubber to break down quicker and get that flakey look as it breaks down. As for cleaning chemicals, nothing beats soap, water and elbow grease. That way you don't have to worry about any chemicals on those expensive rims. ------------------

Perhaps the problem is that Armor-All is garbage? Try using Mother's Back to Black or 30 Day Protectant or that Formula 2001 stuff, they work much much better, last longer, (armor-all lasts a few days and wears off quickly), and look better.
